Whether you are doing AA, Fluorescence, Absorption Spectroscopy, or Emissions Spectroscopy, the detector you are now using may not be optimum. Even more important, recent developments in cathodes have improved S/N, especially in the red. The new R777 has the highest QE, noncrystallin, cathode ever produced by Hamamatsu. The R818 has a lower QE, but it extends further into the red. The use of a CsTe cathode may reduce the effects of remote stray light in the number of short UV instruments. One more point—HTV makes a full line of pin for pin compatible end window as well as side window photomultiplier tubes. Photosensitive devices are HTV's business, not a side-line. You may select either side-on or head-on Hamamatsu PMT's to significantly improve the performance of your instruments.
