Championship Information The Basketball league structure for men and women is attached in Appendices 1 and 2. Not all withdrawals will be evident on this document, so please check the leagues on the website. In 2009-10 all teams qualify for a knockout competition. The qualification details will be listed at the top of your league on www.bucs.org.uk. The following knockout competitions are being offered: Championship & Trophy (Premier Leagues and Tier 1), Conference Cup (Tier 2 and below) You should note that any team in the Premier League or Tier 1 that concedes 2 voluntary walkovers will not be able to proceed to a knockout competition, even if they finish in a qualifying position. You should also be aware of REG 9.9 which details how teams are split should they finish on equal points in the league. Please also note REG 12.10.1 which states that any team forfeiting in a Championship knockout round will be subject to a £500 fine. Any team defaulting in the Trophy knockout rounds will be subject to a £300 fine. Any team withdrawing from the semi final or final stages of a Conference Cup or Conference Plate knockout shall be fined £300.

BUCS Championships 2010 Sheffield, 10-14 March 2010 The largest annual multi sport event in the UK returns to Sheffield for its third year and will attract up to 5,000 competitors participating in a variety of sports. The Basketball Championship Final 8’s and the Trophy Finals will be part of this event.

Rules & Regulations When participating in BUCS Competitions you must ensure you are aware of the Rules and Regulations to which you are competing. There may have been changes to the regulations since last season so please read them carefully. You should be aware of the following regulations: BUCS General Regulations – these relate to all sports. BUCS Sports Specific Regulations – these relate to Basketball only and are attached to this pack in Appendix 3. As per regulation last season – BAS 2.5 From season 2009-10 ALL Tier one teams will be required to comply with the Premier League requirements. Please note new additional sports specific regulations: BAS 3.5 Failure to provide a 24 second shot clock or a scoreboard as per Regulations BAS 3.3 and BAS 3.4 above will result in a £100 fine for the home team. The away team cannot claim a walkover or play under protest or appeal, as the match can still go ahead timed by the officials. BAS 5.4

affiliation has been proven in the correct form or risk ultimately being removed from the BUCS Basketball Competition. BAS 5.5

Failure to affiliate to England Basketball through the BUCS Office via email on the correct forms issued by BUCS/EB for this purpose by the deadline date of Wednesday 4 November 2009 will result in a team/institution conceding walkovers until correctly affiliated and risk ultimately being removed from the BUCS Basketball Competition.

NGB’s Laws of the Sport – you should be aware of the NGB Laws of the Sport. Please contact your relevant Governing Body for more information: www.englandbasketball.com www.basketball-scotland.com www.basketballwales.com

Results Results are input directly onto the website by the competing institutions. It is the responsibility of the HOME institution to enter the result by 6pm on the day of the fixture for Premier League teams, or 10am on the working day following the fixture for all other teams. If a result has not been entered please contact your Athletic Union/Sports Office. If it is a result of an away fixture, ask your Athletic Union/Sports Office to contact your opposition. Any disputes with results must be made immediately and NOT at the end of the league programme. It is therefore IMPERATIVE that you regularly check your league to ensure that it is correct and up to date. Your performances in BUCS Competitions will contribute to your institutions points tally in the BUCS Overall Championships. You can view the Overall Table throughout the year at www.bucs.org.uk/overallpoints

Insurance It is the responsibility of either the individual or institution to ensure that all entrants have appropriate insurance in order to compete. BUCS DOES NOT insure any competitor for any of its events.

Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) is a government funded scheme to help talented athletes who wish to progress with a formal academic programme but maintain an involvement in performance sport. Please note that WOMEN’S Basketball is a TASS sport and as a result all TASS funded scholar athletes are encouraged to compete for their institution in the BUCS programme if the event is identified as part of their individual competition programme. All TASS athletes are expected to represent Great Britain at World University Games or Championships if selected. For further information go to www.tass.gov.uk
