Bearing One Another’s Burdens Galatians 6:1-5 February 18, 2018

Main Idea: Though we will answer to God personally, as followers of Christ we are to support one another and to bear one another's burdens.

Bearing one another’s burdens requires loving, active participation. •

2Bear

one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

We all have burdens.   o James 1:2 Christ alone bore the burden of our sin. o 1 Peter 2:24    As followers of Christ, we are commanded to bear one another’s burdens o “bear one another’s burdens” Burden bearing is an act of love. o “And so fulfill the law of Christ” o John 13:34-35, 15:12 We must humble ourselves to let others share our burden. o 1 Peter 5:6-7 o 2 Corinthians 7:5-6

Bearing one another’s burdens requires humility, gentleness and sacrificial service. •

3For

o o

if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. Galatians 5:26 Romans 12:3

Bearing one another’s burdens does not remove personal responsibility before God. •

4But

let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. 5For each will have to bear his own load. o Galatians 6:14

So What?

How do I bear the burden of a brother/sister caught up in sin? • 1Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you to be tempted. o Matthew 18:15-17

Who is to get involved?   • “you who are spiritual. What are you to do? • “restore…”   How should it be done? • “in a spirit of gentleness” • •

“Keep watch on yourself, lest you to be tempted.”

Am I bearing the burdens of my brothers and sisters who are in a time of need? o Romans 15:5-7
