chamberdirector the voice of business in cloverdale As the voice of the Cloverdale business community, we work at the grass-roots level to represent our membership. We liaise with all levels of government on behalf of our membership to present ideas and ensure business is represented, focusing on issues that are important to Cloverdale and as members of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, we work on a national level to present and promote ideas supporting Cloverdale and District businesses.

becoming a director The Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce (CDCOC) has 13 elected Directors that set the vision for the Chamber and support the work of the Executive Director (ED) to achieve that vision. Terms are for one year. You can expect a time commitment of about five to ten hours per month. Attendance at every monthly Luncheon and other chamber functions is appreciated though not mandatory. Specific Board Member responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

Serving as an advisor to the ED as he/she develops and implements the Chambers long range and strategic plans Supporting fundraising and events up to and including playing an active role as a Committee Chair Approving CDCOC’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities Partnering with the ED and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments Representing CDCOC to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization Ensuring CDCOC’s commitment to a diverse Board and staff that reflects the communities we serve

Board meetings will be held monthly and committee meetings are held as needed.

boardofdirectors qualifications The Board of Directors is the policy body of the Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce (CDCOC). Its members represent a cross-section of the business and professional leaders in the community. It has always been considered an honour to serve on the Board. A genuine and unselfish interest in the Chamber, and its objectives, is the first requirement for a Board member.

Being a member in good standing. Must be a member for at least 30 days prior to the election A willingness to make time, effort and financial commitment necessary to give the proper attention to Chamber responsibilities Business and work experience which will assist in the exercise of sound judgment in the consideration of the implementation of the Board’s strategic plan as it relates to the overall program of community development The ability to inspire others and to command the respect of associates in responding to worthwhile initiatives sponsored by the Chamber and to motivate others to build business and community within Greater Cloverdale area The ability to work constructively and harmoniously with directors, members and staff of the Chamber in accordance with policies established by the Board of Directors A demonstrated ability for leadership in community service.

The proper performance of responsibility by directors and officers is vital to the sound and efficient operation of the Chamber.

Attend board meetings regularly. Absent from 3 consecutive meetings may result in position deemed as vacant Volunteer to work on at least one board committee in areas where your own work and life experiences will best be used Take an active role in discussing and setting a strategic direction for the CDCOC Take an active role in participating and attending in monthly Luncheon meetings, and other Chamber and Community events and initiatives Prepare for each meeting by reading agendas, minutes and reports and other documentation as required to actively participate Make sure that your opinions and thoughts on all matters that come before the Board are presented in a way that represents the interests of the membership Avoid any conflict between your personal interests as a citizen and your interests as a member of the Chamber and Board of Directors Be aware of local, provincial, and federal decisions that affect the business and community of the Greater Cloverdale area Know and understand the roles and responsibilities of the board, committees and staff Maintain board business confidentiality Endorse the collective decision of the Board publicly Participate actively in the fundraising process for CDCOC Are committed to act as outlined in the Board of Directors Roles and Responsibilities for each Board position, from President to Director at Large and Committee Chairperson.
