// NOTES/PRAYER REQUESTS

Believe Campaign Information Dinners As you know, Journey is having informational dinners around the Believe Campaign. We would like to encourage all of the leaders to attend one of the two remaining dinners. These dinners are your opportunity to learn more about the Believe Campaign and to get questions answered. Consider even attending one of these dinners as a community group in place of your normal meeting time. Two more dinners remain Tuesday February 12th and Wednesday February 20th. You can sign up by visiting the Centennial website.

/belong Check-in If there are any new members or visitors to the group, introduce them and go around and have them share how they first came to Journey and what they hope to get out of the group this semester. Catch up Take a few minutes to share how life has been - good, bad and ugly since you last met. How can the group celebrate with you, pray for you, or grieve with you? Settle down Prepare for your discussion and time with God. Open with prayer asking for God to meet with you and that he allows everyone’s hearts to be fully present and engaged. Then read the following passage as a group and reflect on Sunday’s message. February 10, 2013 -Believe: The How-

Matthew 16:18 - And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 1 Chronicles 29:2 - So I have provided for the house of my God, so far as I was able. Hebrews 11:8 - By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not know knowing where he was going.

Key Thoughts God has always been calling His people to step out in faith.

[choose one or two questions from each of the following sections]

Reflect >>> this section has questions that push scripture into our lives through application, feeling and challenging long-held thoughts and beliefs 1. When God called Abraham, he had just lost his father, who was not a follower of God but an idol worshiper. Abraham didn’t grow up in a “Christian” home, and yet God called him to step out in faith in a enormous way. In our culture, its not as big of deal to move away from home, we have planes, cell phones and skype. But back then it meant leaving their security and identity. If you where honest where does your security and identity lie and how difficult would it be for you to give it up if God asked?

2. Who are you praying for and hoping could be impacted by Journey Church stepping out in faith to answer God’s call?

3. Scotty said that the fear box contains thoughts of “its unrealistic, what will people think, I’ll loose control, and thoughts that dwell on the worst case scenario.” What other thoughts enter into your mind when considering stepping out on faith to what God is calling you too?

4. On the flip side the box of faith contains thoughts of “God is bigger than my fears, we can take a risk, I am trusting what God can do, and God is in control”. We would all love to live from a position of faith rather than fear...so what keeps us from doing that? Is it a lack of belief, self-doubt, failing to see the enormity of God?

Generations after Abraham have been impacted by his step of faith. No one wants to read a book about a guy who lived a safe life. We want to read about the guy who lived an adventure.

5. What steps can we take to live a life slanted toward faith instead of fear?

Too much intellectual analysis leads to spiritual analysis. The response to radical grace is extravagant worship.

6. Discuss a time when you stepped out on faith to something that God was calling you to. What was it like? How did God respond to your step of faith?
