A Person of Conviction: 1. Doesn’t play defense. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.” Daniel 3:16

“Circumstances didn’t alter their convictions, convictions altered their circumstances.” June 16 & 17, 2018 Ken Long, Senior Pastor

Becoming a Person of Conviction Conviction: “A truth you believe in so much it shapes your life.” The Story: 1. A Project King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its breadth six cubits. He set it up on the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon. Daniel 3:1

2. A Proclamation And the herald proclaimed aloud, “You are commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages, that when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, you are to fall down and worship the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up.” Daniel 3:4-5

3. A Penalty “And whoever does not fall down and worship shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace.” Daniel 3:6

Three Men of Conviction: 1. The Threat “Now if you are ready when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, well and good. But if you do not worship, you shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you out of my hands?” Daniel 3:15

2. Always declares God’s ability. “If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.” Daniel 3:17 You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:24-26

3. Is ready for personal loss. “But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.” Daniel 3:18 But Ittai answered the king, “As the Lord lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the king shall be, whether for death or for life, there also will your servant be.” 2 Samuel 15:21

The Fourth Man: 1. The Deliverance He answered and said, “But I see four men unbound, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods.” Daniel 3:25

2. The Decree “Therefore I make a decree: Any people, nation, or language that speaks anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be torn limb from limb, and their houses laid in ruins, for there is no other god who is able to rescue in this way.” Daniel 3:29

Application: How do we establish convictions in our lives? What are some foundational convictions you hold? “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7:24 Northshore Media #180617 KJL
