building project

update

building a people of obedience Construction Alert – Library The Library is now closed to prepare for construction. All items must be returned to the library drop box by February 7. Prayer Garden – Jerusalem Stone As you can see in the construction update video showing between services, one special element included in the new prayer garden is Jerusalem stone. Jerusalem stone is the limestone (usually white) that is found in Israel and used throughout the country’s history when constructing buildings. The temple that Solomon built (I Kings 7) and then the temple that Nehemiah rebuilt (Ezra 5) used this type of stone. By law, any building in Jerusalem today has to be constructed out of Jerusalem stone. The prayer garden committee choose to use this stone as a connection to coming to a place to worship and pray.

For information about our many communities, programs and events for all ages, pick up a copy of the monthly Calvary Life, visit us online at calvarygr.org, or stop by the Connection Point in room 215 (beside the Chapel). We would love to meet you! If you need hearing assistance, listening and closed captioning devices are available at the Information Center.

Weekly Focus: Refugee Outreach God’s word is full of instructions to care for foreigners and strangers. One of the most striking passages, Leviticus 25:35, states, “If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and are unable to support themselves among you, help them as you would a foreigner and stranger.” As we have considered the plight of refugees, migrants and displaced people throughout the world, God has been calling Calvary Church to an active role in caring for these vulnerable “strangers.” We’ve realized that this includes both welcoming newcomers into our own community, and helping those who are in desperate situations around the world. On Thursday, January 28, the first refugee crisis short-term mission team from Calvary will leave for the Greek islands where many Middle Eastern refugees are arriving. Working together with the Greek evangelical church and with Greater Europe Mission, they will spend a week demonstrating the love of Jesus as He leads them in a refugee camp. Please pray for this team of eight, that God would lead them to the work he has prepared for them, that he would protect them spiritually and physically throughout the trip, and that their presence would encourage believers and draw in those who need to know Christ. To learn more of their prayer needs, visit calvarygr.org/ministries/missions-outreach/refugee-relief/. If you would like to support this team financially or contribute to ongoing refugee relief efforts through Calvary Church and our partners, both locally and globally, indicate “Refugee Relief” on your offering envelope, or online at mycalvary.org. Or try our new text-to-give feature by simply texting the amount you wish to give, followed by “Refugee Relief” to 616-294-0700 (for example, 75 Refugee Relief).
