Bibles For Elementary Schoolers Though often purchased as a first Bible for young preschoolers, I have found that this Bible is best used starting later in preschool or in early elementary school. It does an excellent job of showing how the Bible really is all about Jesus. It doesn't gloss over the tough parts and it tells the bigger story of salvation through EVERY story! It helps show how the Old Testament stories were pictures of God's love and foretelling of Jesus coming. The stories are well-written with good illustrations. If you are looking for a REAL kids Bible that will intrigue both kids and adults this is the one. Plus the CDs are great for in the car.

The Story for Children is a unique collection of forty-eight Bible stories written by beloved pastor and writer Max Lucado and tells the big picture of God’s enormous love for his children. The vibrant illustrations that accompany the stories are by accomplished artist Fausto Bianchi and help bring the Bible to life for readers of any age. It is recommended for children ages 4 to 7 and is the second of five Bibles that tell the narrative of Scripture in chronological order for preschoolers all the way up to adults. This version of the Bible is written for kids ranging in age from 7 to 10 as stated on the back cover. This is a terrific idea of taking Biblical text and arranging them in a sequential order so kids (and adults) can understand that the word of God is one big story. Though there are many parts left out and it does not have verses to be able to look up passages easily, it reads like a book and the kids who have tried it have literally said they can’t put it down! "The Story" also comes in a teen and adult version as well.

This is a great book to get children, I'll say 2nd to 5th grade, to read and understand important stories in the bible. It is a day-by-day reader that should take around 7 to 10 minutes depending on reading skills. There are some illustrations to break up the copy. Stories that might appear in different chapters are combined and told in one chapter with references to other chapters. Violence and sexual stories are removed/kept to a minimum. There are amazing indices in the back for referencing stories that are especially helpful for Sunday school teachers or parents.

This Bible does a great job of engaging kids who are 2 years old through 2nd grade. The pictures are wonderful. The stories are a great length for early elementary kids to track with and even start reading some themselves. Each story also ends with a question to talk about as a family, which is great for a spiritual conversation. Highly recommended.

This is the Bible we give to kids at the end of 2nd grade for Milestone 6: The Bible. It is a full version of the New International Readers Version translation, a simplified version of the well-known NIV Bible. It contains great notes to help kids understand it and is a popular first Bible for kids. We ask kids to bring this Bible with them to HRKids every Sunday starting in 3rd Grade. Note: There is also an Adventure Bible that uses the NIV if you prefer to get your child a Bible with a translation that is the same as the one we use in our sanctuary.
