Motion to approve current agenda as is by Chuck Kane, 2 by Jason Fradenburg, All in Favor, Approved. 3. President’s Report from Dave Kerschner A. Bowling is facing a tough situation these days with 50% of the proprietors not wanting to make any changes and 25% of them do. B. We had a five state meeting at Bowl Expo to talking about doing a joint Miller Baker Blast tournament starting in the fall. C. There was some interest in doing a joint meeting with Michigan in 2013. Their meeting is usually at the end of July each year. The advantage of doing this would that we would gain more exhibitors and maybe it would bring more of our northern centers to the show. D. We had another state leadership training session at Bowl Expo with all the state President’s and ED’s. It was another great learning experience. Hopefully by Bowl Summit they will have some stuff I can bring back for the board. E. Chuck Kane suggested it might be a good idea to look at the by-laws and making a few changes to them. F. Miller/Coor’s Baker Blast raised $22,500 in Illinois. They have 25% participation from state (30 centers) 4. Budget – from Dave King A. Working on our 2013 budget for 2013 in September, so we should have it ready to present at the October meeting. B. Numbers all look good through July from Judy down in Texas. C. We have had some member centers close this year, which has put our numbers down slightly.
5. State Executive Director Report by Chris Gallas A. We are at 124 centers, which is down 6 compared to last year. B. There have been six centers to close since last year and 4 centers have not renewed their membership yet. We have also gained 4 new members in 2012. C. Pepsi revenue is down 4,000 gallons compared to the first six months of 2011. We have less centers pouring, which is making up most of the deficit. D. Smart Buy program is going well. 124 centers are doing at least 1 program. Pepsi, Music Licensing and First Data are top 3 programs used. E. New programs to look at are Java bowl, new coffee; Best Buy, York AC, Fawn Vending.

Tuesday, November 6, 2012 – 10:00 AM to 1 PM @ Woodland Bowl in Indianapolis, IBCA Annual Meeting MinutesIN
August 7th, 2012
PAST French MEETING MINUTES ON Lick Resort, French Lick, IN 8/7/12 1. Committee Updates A. Employee Evaluations – Dave Kerschner thinks we should have something by the end of August to present to the board. B. Financial Committee – Should have the 2013 budget completed by the end of September. C. Operations Committee – Cathy Cooper is reviewing by-laws. D. High School Committee – Steve Kunkel was looking into televising the state finals. Collin suggested maybe streaming them on the state’s Facebook page and save $1k. A suggestion of also deleting $50 rebate to coordinators. Format of state is 8 girls and 8 boys. Over 200 teams competing. The average is about 800 people attending. E. Membership Committee – Phone tree went OK, we need to clean up the list some more. June might be a better month for the meeting. Going to be sending out a survey to everyone that attended to get some feedback. Looking at some new tournaments and state Smart Buy program. 2. Legislative – Jerry Hindel A. New light bulbs now in effect. Some won’t fit into the new fixtures, which is creating a problem for centers. Energy Indiana (energyindiana.gov) is providing a rebate program of $20 to $30 a fixture, plus possible tax credit to it. Check it out. B. New laws are in the works to people to have to blow into a device on their cars to test their blood alcohol limit before they can turn the car on.
3. Old Business A. Scott Devers might want to bid on the national IFT for 2013 and might need the assistance of the IBCA. – Table issue until next meeting.
4. New Business A. Conference Call – Ron Taylor will set it up on thoughts for our December Round Table Meetings. B. Audit Report for December – Dave King is handling it. C. Membership Rewards – Working with Shawn McClellan to set up everything for FREE for all centers. Sell the card for $21.95 – gets person 20 FREE games of bowling. Center gets $10, Membership Rewards gets $10 and $1.95 goes to the IBCA. It might be a good idea to have signs up in all the centers that are doing this to help promote it better. 5. Next Board of Directors Meeting – Looking at doing it the last week of October. Dave will work on setting a date soon.
6.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
1. Develop a communication chain to reach and inform our membership. a. Divide all membership into a phone chain and communicate with them by-monthly. b. Hold Regional round tables in at least two areas this next year. c. Make them aware of National programs and new State programs at this meeting. d. Give them support by having a contact person. 2. Develop a State Smart Buy Program. a. Work with Bowling Rewards to create a State Platinum Rewards Card. b. Decide what this card will include – free games, outside discounts, what will it sell for. 3. Tournament revenue. a. Miller’s Baker Blast. b. Involvement with BVL. c. Improving participation in the International Family Tournament. These were the goals I sent you last March and we have done Ok but have a lot of work to do. 1. A - We have developed a phone tree and I believe it will only improve as we continue to develop relationships with our members. 1. B - Our regional round tables will be coming up in December and with your help we can make them a success. 1. C & d - We are trying to educate and train Cathy and Steve more in an effort to accomplish 1. C & D. They are the faces to our membership and we must give them the tools they need to be successful. 2. A - The membership reward program is off and hitting with a big bang. Over 40 centers have sign on and I hope this program will grow from here. 2. B – I haven’t done so well here but there is time to grow this. 3. A – The Miller Baker Blast is out and hopefully you and other centers will participate. This is a great opportunity for centers to make some cash. 3 b – we have tied the BVL to our Membership Rewards program. 3 c – Ron Taylor is working on this. So as you can see we have accomplished some things but still have a lot to do. Thanks for your efforts and thanks in advance for the future. Let’s make the IBCA, the association to watch.
Sincerely Dave Kerschner

Indiana Bowling Center Association Employee Evaluation Committee: Cathy Cooper (Chairperson), Kenny Howard, Dave Kerschner Employees: Steve Kunkel, Cathy Sumner Steve Kunkel: The committee went through the different areas of Steve’s responsibility to the IBCA.
High School Bowling and Middle School Bowling Create programs to fund schools participation Communication Database Management Tournaments Coaching Summer Camp Bowling Center recruitment and Retention.
He was asked to rate himself on a scale 1-5 with 5 being the best you can be. He felt he was very effective in almost every area with the exception:
Maintaining the current schools in the program and focusing on Schools or Centers that have dropped out of the program Working close with the Athletic Directors Creating booster clubs within the centers and schools
The committee agreed with his assessment of his job performance. We put him at an overall rating of 4.25. We asked if there are needs that the IBCA could assist him in performing his duties.
The inconsistency of the National running of our state ( Employee Turnover) Training on all the programs so they are able to help the proprietors understand them as well as how to utilize them Funds for extra help during the year Need the centers or IBCA Board Members to help with running of Regionals
Steve is very happy with his position and would like insurance if possible. Recommendation: A Bonus of $1,000. This would not affect his base pay of $46,000. Pay for him to attend the 2013 Bowl Expo for educational purposes.

HIGH SCHOOL REPORT 2012 IBCA Fall Board Meeting Report - High School Bowling By Steve Kunkel The 14th season of IHSB (Indiana High School Bowling) is right around the corner and many of the 24 conferences across the state are holding organizational meetings to forward new forms and information to the coaches. The program has grown every year except one and this past season we finally hit 200 schools. Each year there are a few changes that are made as we feel are necessary and this year is no different. We continue to work closely with state and national USBC and are requiring all bowlers be USBC certified and all coaches to be members of the USBC RVP. In a continued effort to offer better trained coaches for our program, we offered 3 FREE Coaches’ Clinics this fall with PBA Member Brad Angelo as our guest speaker. Brad spoke on the topic of ‘Teaching in the Year 2012’. We didn’t make this a required event, but we recommended the proprietors strongly encourage their coaches to attend. The clinics were scheduled on the last two Sundays in September and the first Sunday in October at Franklin Lanes in Evansville, Stardust Bowl II in Merrillville and Cooper’s Sport Bowl in Anderson. Our attendance grew each week from 19 to 41 to 85. The clinic received high marks on most of the evaluations. Our IMSBowling Program (Indiana Middle School) will follow the IHSB Season next spring. We begin the program in March and finish with the finals in May. Many centers have used this program to extend their youth season, bring new bowlers into the center and act as a feeder program for their high school teams. The program is similar to the IHSB, but different in that we allow any or all bowlers from a school to compete at their chosen center. We allow the participating center to run their local program as they need to, determined by their numbers. Everyone is then eligible for the regional singles tournament and the top boys and girls in each grade (6, 7 & 8) advance to the finals as well as the top teams as determined by regional singles scores. We have made the finals an event as we hold the competition, feed the finalists lunch and then allow them to bowl for fun and prizes to music and lights as the scores are tabulated. The winners receive medals and scholarships. In summary, we are offering these programs as tools to help our proprietors grow youth bowling, the future of our industry.
