Bond Street Station Western Ticket Hall and Tunnelling Update Work on the Bond Street western ticket hall for Crossrail is going well and the enlargement of the east and west bound platform tunnels is almost complete (see diagram below with green sections showing as completed). The last 50m of the eastbound tunnel (indicated by the yellow arrow) under South Molton Lane and Davies Street should be completed by the end of July. Once the platform tunnel has reached the station box under Davies Street we will need to break through the thick concrete wall of the ticket hall by stitch drilling and using a breaking machine to break out the concrete. It will take about three days to complete and may be audible on the surface. Some of the ventilation adits and service tunnels for the station box have been started and it will soon be time to commence the escalator barrel decline and pedestrian access tunnels which are located mainly to the east of Davies Street, under the Grays Antiques building and TA Centre (indicated in orange below) Due to the nature of tunnelling, the work has to be carried out 24 hours a day for safety and settlement mitigation reasons. There will be occasions when we will have to break through temporary concrete walls and this will require the use of heavy machinery which may be audible in the buildings above. We will try to carry out any noisy works at the least inconvenient time for local residents and businesses but this may not always be possible. Tunnel enlargement Eastbound platform

Western Ticket Hall

Duration of work • Tunnel enlargement is continuing. Work under Grays Antiques is due to start in August 2014 and take about two months to complete • Working hours are 24 hours a day seven days a week for safety and settlement mitigation reasons

What to expect • There may be times when you could experience noise and vibration from the break out of concrete in the tunnel

What we will do • We will try to keep the noisy work to a minimum and continue to review the best time to carry out concrete breaking to cause the least inconvenience • Carry out real time settlement monitoring

Westbound platform

Work on the access tunnels (highlighted in orange) is due to start in August 2014 and will take about two months to complete. The initial phase will be to break through the ticket hall wall to start the tunnel marked as ES1 on the diagram and again this will take about three days to complete. Continued overleaf…

• Monitor noise and dust and keep within permitted levels on the surface • Ensure we are good neighbours and keep you informed

The completion of the tunnel ES1 should take about three weeks using the sprayed concrete lining method. A pilot tunnel will be constructed first and this will be subsequently enlarged to the full size of the access tunnel. The break out of the concrete pilot tunnel could be a noisy operation but we will try and use a less noisy method such as the use of a mechanical breaker called a ‘muncher’ to remove this material where possible. Once this tunnel is complete, then the side access tunnels connecting the platforms to the concourse marked as CP1,2,3 & 4 will be constructed and this will involve breaking through the concrete wall of ES1 which again may be noisy. We will endeavour to minimise any disruption to residents and businesses and keep you informed about the works through regular bulletins. However, if the noise becomes a nuisance please do not hesitate to call the Crossrail Helpline.
