Warmwater Fisheries Surveys of Box Canyon Reservoir Pend Oreille County, Washington 2004 - 2009 - 2011

The 2011 pike population level is not sustainable

Since 2004, we have seen: • Significant increase in northern pike abundance • Significant decrease in abundance of many other species  Largemouth Bass     

If left alone, the increasing pike population will impede efforts to: • Maintain a viable recreational fishery  Pike will become overabundant, stunted, and unattractive to anglers

Black Crappie Yellow Perch Pumpkinseed Peamouth Northern Pikeminnow

 Overabundant pike population will inhibit the production of other preferred native and non-native fish populations within the reservoir

• Achieve the short-term, mid-term, and long-term conservation goals for Box Canyon Reservoir Number of River Sections Sampled by Gear Type 2004-2011
