Breathe: Life in the Spirit Walking in Step with God’s Spirit Galatians 5:16-23 Dr. Stephen Rummage, Senior Pastor Bell Shoals Baptist Church April 30, 2017 Galatians 5:16 (ESV) But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. Galatians 5:17 (ESV) For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. Galatians 5:18 (ESV) But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Galatians 5:19 (ESV) Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, Galatians 5:20 (ESV) idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, Galatians 5:21 (ESV) envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:22 (ESV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, Galatians 5:23 (ESV) gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

1. The Holy Spirit’s Power to Overcome Galatians 5:16 (ESV) But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. Galatians 5:17 (ESV) For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

2. The Holy Spirit’s Power to Lead Galatians 5:18 (ESV) But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

The Holy Spirit’s Power to Reveal Galatians 5:19 (ESV) Now the works of the flesh are evident … Galatians 5:19 (ESV) … sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, Galatians 5:20 (ESV) idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, Galatians 5:21 (ESV) envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these.
