Meeting Tonight we again had the company of Ella Prechtl; RI Exchange Student from Austria who is being jointly hosted by the local cluster of four clubs. Ella has settled well into her temporary life in Wanganui and appears happy and enthusiastic. Roger Law was also with us to ensure distribution of spuds and buckets for the upcoming spud growing competition. In the absence of our official 'Sergeant Craig' and our stand in 'Sergeant Mike,' impromptu Sergeant Terry stepped into the fold and swooped down on all and sundry for a variety of misdemeanours, ranging from Marion somehow being guilty because an heroic worker on the Waimarie became a temporary lifesaver - to Roger wearing the same shorts to Rotary as he did to Croquet on the same morning. Terry also reminded us that Wanganui South's Foodbank Drive, to be held on Thursday 20th October, requires our club to supply as many drivers as possible to ensure that this project can remain in operation and be the success that it always has been. President PK reminded us that DG Martin Garcia will be visiting us in his capacity as District Governor on 19 October. Peter will be conveniently 'in another country' for this event so his deputy, Brian Smith has agreed to step up to the plate to take charge of proceedings. DG Martin would like to meet with as many Directors as possible beforehand to discuss what the club is doing in the way of projects, etc. So please Directors, if you possibly can, be there as early as 5:00pm. Cranleigh outlined the Prospective New Members night which is being held on Wednesday 12 October. Support and presence is required from every member if possible. Marie thanked Shaun and others who have worked in putting together an exciting new fundraising event to be held on 25 November; and she also briefly outlined the arrangements for Carols by Candlelight to be held on 11 December.

Guest Speaker Our speaker tonight was drawn from within.... Shaun Hogan gave us a very exciting account of the new fundraising project called 'Wanganui North Rotary Stakes' which he has been putting together with Project Group 1, to be held on 25 November. The evening sounds like a great deal of fun and is based on teams and individuals racing on ERG's to raise funds for 'Project Toolkit,' which is Rose Charities NZ's new venture designed to take ear, nose and throat surgery to Samoa, to help 25,000 children needing it. ERG's are rowing machines (nicknamed Pain Machines); ERG being an abbreviation for Ergometer (measure of work).

Great stuff Shaun, the room was full of enthusiasm as you revealed your plans. It was noticed that 'Coxon' was used as a prime case example frequently in Shaun's presentation. Therefore we can expect to see some exciting demonstrative action from Terry on the night.
