(11:00) Introit – The Children of the World Terre Johnson (pub. 2016) If somewhere a child is hungry or isn’t tucked in, safe and warm; if somewhere a baby’s crying, longing for a parent’s arms; that is where the love of Jesus must be shared by you and me, for if we have plenty, love and safety, we must share with the least of these. The children of the world are our children, made by God, just like you and me. The children of the world must be fed and held and loved, for if one of them is hungry, so are we. In a world so rich with blessings, where there is plenty to be shared; from our lives of such abundance, we can offer love and care. For we know the love of Jesus can be shared with our own hands, we can share our blessings, help our neighbor, be the hands of Christ to them.

Minute for Generosity

Linda Nunnallee and William Silverman

Call to Worship One: We have been called by God to follow the Son, the Lord of love and mercy. All: Let us pray with confidence, sing with joy, and offer our best in the name of God. One: This is the day that the Lord has made! A day made for celebrating our blessings and sharing our gifts. All: In the name of Jesus Christ, let us worship our merciful God. *Hymn 652 - A Grateful Heart

ROCKINGHAM

*Call to Confession *Prayer of Confession God of grace and forgiveness, we pray today in the name of your Son. Far too often we chase after the wrong dreams and set the wrong goals. We ask your mercy in light of the wrong things we have done and the right things we have left undone. Send us your Holy Spirit that we might reflect your generous hearts with the living of generous lives. Amen. *Assurance of Pardon *Passing of the Peace

come, be thankful, serve the Lord. You know the Lord is God who made us, and we are his. We are his sheep, the sheep of his pasture. Let us sing an allelu, alleluia. Give thanks to God and bless his name! Come all the earth and praise the Lord. Alleluia! Be joyful and sing, for the Lord is good. God’s mercy is forevermore. Praise the Lord.

(11:00) Anthem - Let Us Walk in the Light of the Lord

Vicki Hancock Wright (pub. 2008)

When the first sunrise awoke all creation, God smiled and declared, “This is good.” Sun bringing brightness, light spilling from heaven, God’s love touching all that it could. Let us walk in the light of the Lord. Feel God’s love shining in us, around us, and through us. Let us walk in the light of the Lord. When you see someone who seems sad and lonely, and needing a friend just like you, God gives you guidance to light up the darkness; God’s love touching others through you.

New Testament Lesson - Hebrews 4:12-16

pew Bible, p. 220

*Offertory Response Hymn 712 - stanza 3 In gratitude and humble trust we bring our best today, to serve your cause and share your love with all along life’s way. O God who gave yourself to us in Jesus Christ your Son, help us to give ourselves each day until life’s work is done.

FOREST GREEN

*Affirmation of Faith from A Declaration of Faith, 1977 Jesus Christ stands at the center of our faith as he reveals God’s love for us in the pages of scripture. The Bible is the account of God's word and action in history, together with the people's response in faith. It is the story of the one God, who is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. That story is still unfolding and in faith we make it our own story. It forms our memory and our hope. This story itself tells us that God works through sovereign will and justice among all peoples of the earth. We must not set our ultimate reliance on any other help. We must not yield unconditional obedience to any other power. We must not love anyone or anything more than we love God. We praise and enjoy God. For to worship God is highest joy, and to serve God is perfect freedom.

WE GO IN GOD’S NAME

(11:00) A Time with the Younger Church Following our time together, four-year-olds through second graders will meet Cole Whitford at the door near the baptismal font, to be joined by Ashlyn Whitford from the OnPoint service, for Worship Enrichment in L201.

*Hymn 694 - Great God of Every Blessing

AUERLIA

*Charge and Benediction Sermon - Living and Active

Christopher Edmonston

*Chiming of the Trinity The worship service ends with the Chiming of the Trinity. Please be mindful of those who remain to listen to the postlude.

*Postlude - Fantasia in G Major, BWV 572

WE RESPOND TO GOD’S WORD *Hymn 262 – Since Our Great High Priest, Christ Jesus Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer

ALL SAINTS

Gary Fulton

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Eric Nelson (b. 1959)

What does the Lord require for praise and offering? What sacrifice, desire, or tribute bid you bring? To do justice; love mercy; and walk humbly with your God. Rulers of earth, give ear! Should you not justice know? Will God your pleading hear, while crime and cruelty grow? Then do justice; love mercy; and walk humbly with your God. How shall our life fulfill God’s law so high? Let Christ endue our will with grace.

(11:00) A Psalm of Thanksgiving

Timothy Shaw (pub. 2013)

Come, all the earth, and praise the Lord. Be joyful and sing, for the Lord is good. God’s mercy is forevermore. Oh, come, be joyful, praise the Lord. Come, serve the Lord with grateful hearts. Be thankful and sing, for the Lord is good. God’s truth will never fail. Oh

*All who are able may stand.

Christian Welcome and Announcements

Robert Galloway

Please pass the Friendship Register to your neighbor; include all requested information.
