What’s happening in May? In store for us this May: Traditional Cinco de Mayo on the 5th. A celebration of Mexico, all the ancestors and saints, spicy snacks and salsa dancing.
Cinco de Mayo - May 5th
Mother’s Day memories on Friday the 6th. Tea for two, “or three or four, or more,” poems, stories and art activities to honor the moms we had, and the moms some of us are. Flowers, fun and fine dining, so mind your manners, like your momma said! Our Memorial Day event on Friday, the 27th rounds out this month’s experience, and will focus on our fallen heroes, military history, and how to remain strong in the wake of our country’s support of democracy worldwide. Salute!

Participant SPOTLIGHT Freida’s advice: “Take one day at a time and keep smiling. My contribution to adult day is to keep smiling.” At home, Freida is enjoying the fresh spring air. “The doors are open, the air is blowing and I’m cleaning up my home. I have two parakeets and three Pomeranian dogs. It’s not quiet around here but at least it’s a nice sound,” said Freida.

“I was lucky enough to be a stay-at-home mom,” she recalls. “I have three children. The oldest is Kimberly and the twins are Anthony and Suzanne.” The family lived near the Florida Keys and took advantage of the beaches. “We had pool parties,” said Freida. “I was the coleslaw queen and my cousin was the baked bean queen! We had eight months of summer!”

Creative Writing...with our participants “Values and Virtue”
1. Be nice 2. Be good 3. Find a role model 4. Have patience, be tolerant 5. Be kind, show respect 6. Joe K quotes, “Honesty is the best policy,” and Bill R adds that it’s good for business, too! 7. “Let your conscience be your guide.” 7 ½. Ned says “have a ‘heart to heart’ talk about it.” 8. What’s the difference between “thankful and grateful?” Ernest C. answers, “a blessing.”
9. Someone says “Go to Sunday school.” Eve mis-hears and says, “maternity school? Then Edie pipes in, “ That’s right, when you fail Sunday school, you might wind up in maternity school.” 10. Colette saves the day by reminding the group,” Don’t take anything that belongs to someone else.” And Eve recovers well with the last, very wise word, “A value is something you’ve been taking care of for a while.” (to be continued... other contributors were Marilyn, Myrtis, Mildred, Dolly, Walters one and two, Bob, and Mary M.)
