Catch the Spirit

July 25, 2012

Greetings from Central’s Center for Children. Our summer days are flying by and we are already making preparations for the fall semester which will be coming much too quickly. We’ve enjoyed sprinkler days, popsicles, trips to the Farmers’ Market, and many other activities that make the summertime so much fun.

Each fall we have the mixed blessing of seeing children, several who have been with us since they were infants, move on to Kindergarten. We have seen them grow and done our best to nurture, encourage, and teach them the skills that will bring them success in the years to come. Most importantly, we hope that the lessons that they have learned in chapel each week will be remembered and have a positive impact on their lives as the years go by.

And as the old school year ends, a new one is hot on its heels, bringing to us new little ones to love, new families to work with and the excitement that starting out fresh brings. We covet your prayers for the children who attend CCC, Hand in Hand, and Camp Central, and for the staff members who work with the children. May CCC’s outreach be a blessing to the children, families, community and the church in the days to come.

2 Timothy 3:14-15 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

Jane Mathias Director Central’s Center for Children & Hand in Hand Learning Center

Pathways to Spiritual Growth The Pathways to Spiritual Growth has been created to assist you in growing in every way into Christ. Pathways moves from “Believing in Christ” to living a “Christ-Centered Life.” Typically, due to personality compositions, individual preferences, and past experiences, Christians find they have experienced growth in some areas more easily than in others. Pathways will help you identify those areas where more intentionality in needed. For more information, pick up a brochure in the church office or visit www.centraltolife.com/pathways.

Casual Sundays at Central continue July through August! Dress comfortably, but remember that while our dress is casual, our worship is not. Let your spirit be ready to receive whatever God may have for you each week!

New Arkansas Conference Episcopal Leader The South Central Jurisdictional Conference, which is held every four years, was held last week in Oklahoma City. During that time a major focus of business was the election of three new bishops for our eight-state jurisdiction. This was of particular interest to folks in Arkansas since our current bishop is retiring August 31st. After several days involving elections and appointment determinations, we are pleased to announce that Rev. Gary Mueller has been appointed to a four-year term as the new bishop in residence for the Arkansas Conference effective September 1st. Bishop Mueller, a graduate of Southern Methodist University’s Perkins School of Theology, has most recently been serving as Senior Pastor at First UMC in Plano, Texas. Bishop Mueller is married to Wink Mueller and they have two adult children. If you would like more information about Bishop Mueller, please go to http://elections.umc.org/. Our Administrator, Brian Swain, served as a delegate from Arkansas and one of the 254 total delegates from across the jurisdiction. All are invited to participate in this project by giving a special offering this Sunday. Here We Grow Again... Prayer requests are received in a confidential manner and lifted up to the Lord in prayer by Central’s Prayer Team, a group of volunteers who come to the Prayer Room daily to listen and pray for the requests that have been left. At Central, we believe that prayer is essential. It is important to the individual believer, but is also essential for the Church to be an effective vessel of God’s grace and the Good News of Jesus Christ.
