Cats, Rangers, Pats win soccer matches From Herald Staff Reports Saturday was chock full of meets, matches and games, with several local prep teams in action. Here’s a brief rundown of this weekend’s action.

■■ Cross Country Jasper boys take home first

All five area boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Crawford Counprep ty on Saturday sports to take part in the Crawford County Invitational. On the boys side, Jasper placed first overall with 139 points, while Forest Park was seventh (314), Southridge was ninth (336), Northeast Dubois was 15th (426) and Heritage Hills was 23rd (574). Area boys in the top 10 were Jasper’s Drew O’Neil (2nd, 16:34), Forest Park’s Spenser Wolf (3rd, 17:11), Southridge’s Dylan Bland (7th, 17:52) and Jasper’s Jackson Miller (9th, 18:00). For the girls, Jasper placed fourth with a 145, while Forest Park was fifth (187), Heritage Hills was sixth (194), Southridge was

■■ Boys Soccer Cougars 3, Jeeps 2

In a close battle between two tough teams, North Harrison came away with a victory over Northeast Dubois on Saturday. North Harrison scored first, but Northeast Dubois tied things up with 25 minutes to play in the first half, as Jacob Ivey assisted Chase Zehr to tie the match at 1. North Harrison scored another goal before halftime to take a 2-1

lead at the break. The second half was back and forth, as Ethan Myers scored on a direct free kick with 19 minutes to play, O’Neil but North Harrison scored the game-winning goal with five minutes left to play.

■■ Girls Soccer Wildcats 6, Patriots 1

at home over Washington on Saturday. Kenlee Gehlhausen and Denai Sicard both scored two goals each, while Grace Fleck and Lauren Jahn had assists.

Cougars 8, Jeeps 3

North Harrison exploded to a quick start over Northeast Dubois en route to an 8-3 victory on Saturday. The Cougars scored five goals in the first half, with all three of the Jeeps’ goals coming in the second half. Northeast Dubois scorers were Taylor Neukam, Lexi Freyberger and Vivien Wolf.

Patriots 4, Wildcats 0

The Jasper girls soccer team cruised to a victory over Vincennes Rivet in Vincennes on Saturday afternoon. Goals were scored by Leah Schnell (two), Peyton Blackgrave, Brooke Nottingham, Amy Cruz and Regan Mundy. Assists came from Mundy (two), Schnell, Alyssa Skorge and Annie Donato. Heritage Hills started off rather slowly, but three goals in the second half helped to carry them to a road victory at Mount Vernon on Saturday. Xiana Scott, Kiersten Schuler, Ella Schnieders and Hadley Lytton all scored for Heritage Hills, while Olivia Meunier and Ali Wade finished with assists.

■■ Volleyball Cats go 2-1 at New Albany

The Jasper volleyball team

traveled to New Albany to compete in the Active Ankle Challenge, and finished with a 2-1 record. The Wildcats defeated Columbus North 2-1 (17-25, 25-16, 15-13) and Floyd Central 2-1 (21-25, 27-25, 15-10), but fell to Castle 2-0 (11-25, 16-25). Individual statistics were not reported for this tournament.

Raiders finish second at Tell City

The Southridge volleyball team traveled to Tell City to participate in the Tell City Invitational, and came home with a secondplace trophy. The Raiders defeated North Harrison 2-0 (25-22, 25-20), Mitchell 2-1 (28-26, 16-25, 15-11) and South Central (Elizabeth) 2-0 (2518, 25-14), but fell to Tell City 2-0 (13-25, 15-25) in the championship match. Stat leaders for the tourney were Anna Altstadt (28 kills, 27 assists, nine blocks), Savannah Goeppner (22 assists), Anna Kappner (19 assists), Tatiana Delgado (58 digs) and Audra Hochgesang (six aces).

Unified Flag Football bracket set With the IHSAA’s inaugural Unified Flag Football season well underway, the bracket has been set for the first-ever postseason flag football tournament. Jasper will host its opening game on September 29 against Floyd Central, with the winner facing Evansville Central in Jasper later that evening. If the Cats win their first two matches, they’ll play in the regional championship on October 6, and if they win that, then they’ll head to the state finals, which take place on October 13.

Youth volleyball night scheduled

JASPER — The Jasper High School volleyball match on Tuesday, against Evansville Mater Dei has been designated as Jasper volleyball youth night. Any grade school or middle school girl wearing a Jasper volleyball or Volleycat T-shirt will be admitted for free. The match starts at 6:30 p.m., and Jasper, Holy Trinity and Volleycat players and coaches will be acknowledged between the junior varsity and varsity matches.
