A W ORD from D R . T ODD B RADY Bringing God’s Word to you each week for the last year has been a great honor. Indeed, “faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17) As God continues His work among the peoples of FBC, I certainly will continue to have you in my heart and prayers. FBC is such a dear people. God has placed a great love for you in my heart, and I have been privileged to stand for the last year in the stream of what God has been doing, is doing and is going to continue doing. I feel like the Apostle Paul felt when he spoke of the Philippians— “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.” (Philippians 1:3-5) In days ahead, I will be praying specifically Philippians 1:9-11 for you. “And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”

SERVING MINISTRY Tupelo Rebuilding

July 3-17 Many of the leaders of Eight Days of Hope will be in Tupelo from July 3rd to July 17th framing the local American Legion. They are looking for semi skilled or skilled volunteers. You can volunteer for one day or all 14. Please contact Steve Tybor or Chris Chiles for more information. You can also email [email protected] or call 844-6934.

Ohio Mission Journey

July 17-26 The team going to Castalia, OH needs at least five additional team members to serve alongside our partner church, Cold Creek Community Church. The team will be leading a Basketball Camp, July 20-23, for approximately 100 children in grades 1-6. Brian Alexander will be serving as the lead coach for the camp. We need group leaders that can supervise and lead individual groups of children based on age groups. Group leaders will be in charge of leading the team to do as instructed by Coach Alexander. In addition to group leaders the team needs volunteers that can handle registration logistics and help prepare sack lunches and serve lunch to the kids each day.

Rooted in Paul’s prayer for the Philippians, I pray this five-fold prayer for you: 1. May you grow in love. May you love God more and more and may you love one another more and more. And as others see your love for God and for one another, may they see and experience God’s love. 2. May you grow in knowledge and discernment. Understanding that living for Christ is not only about making decisions between right and wrong, but also between good and best, may God lead you to pursue that which is best in all things so that you may be known as those who “approve what is excellent.” 3. May you grow in purity. As J.I. Packer has stated, “Holiness is always the saved sinner’s response of gratitude for grace received.” Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8) Understanding that God has given you His once-and-for-all righteousness, may you grow in your daily purity. 4. May you display the fruit of righteousness. Because of the work of His Spirit in you, may the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) be always on display in your lives.

Lodging is provided at the local Hampton Inn, and some meals are provided. Team members will be responsible for $400.00 plus 6 meals. The team will travel by bus from Tupelo to Castalia. Please be available to join this team under the Lord’s leadership. Contact Lee at 662-322-1011 or [email protected]. for more information.

PATRIOTIC SERVICE … On July 5, 2015 in the morning worship services, we will have a patriotic service honoring our great God. We will celebrate the freedom we have in Christ, and the freedoms we enjoy in the United States of America. The Bible states: John 8:36 - So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. Galatians 5:1 - For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. Psalm 33:12 - Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom He has chosen as His heritage! Isaiah 60:12 - For the nation and kingdom that will not serve You shall perish; those nations shall be utterly laid waste. 2 Chronicles 7:14 - If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Proverbs 14:34 - Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.

GAITHER HOMECOMING FBC TUPELO STYLE July 26, 2015 ▪ 6:00 p.m. FBC Sanctuary NO … The Speers, The Cathedrals, The Stamps, or the Gaithers will not be present, but our people will use this informal format to sing the songs of Zion. On February 19, 1991, the Gaither Vocal Band had just wrapped up a recording session in Nashville, Tennessee, working on an album called Homecoming, which featured many of the great voices of southern gospel music: The Speers, the Gatlins, Jake Hess, The Cathedrals, Howard & Vestal Goodman, Buck Rambo, Eva Mae Lefevre, James Blackwood, Hovie Lister, Jim Hill, and J.D. Sumner & The Stamps. After the session, the artists stayed around to chat, swap stories and sing old standards around the piano. The impromptu session was recorded on video and later published. The recording was so well received that the Gaithers began a series of professionally-produced videos with larger gatherings of gospel musicians. On July 26, 2015 at 6:00 p.m., First Baptist Church, Tupelo will gather to sing some of the old standards in a worship setting in our sanctuary. Many soloists, small groups, trios, quartets, families, blue grass musicians, and a volunteer choir from FBC Tupelo will lead a wonderful night of worship. This will be a great night of worship as we praise and lift up the name of the Lord through song…FBC Tupelo Style.

Here it is … July and we are in the process of contacting and enlisting children’s choir workers for the 2015-2016 year. We want leaders who love our Lord, and love children, and are willing to invest in their lives. Prayerfully consider helping in children’s choir this year.

In June many of our students made the trip to Fort Worth, Texas to work with Asian and Middle Eastern Refugees. Our students allowed the Holy Spirit to use them in a mighty way. We ministered to 1,000 children and families. Among those were Nepalese, Indian, Sudanese, Afghan, Iraqi, and Hispanic. They shared Christ primarily with Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, and agnostics. They prepared more than 100 gift bags for the families of the Nepalese church, more than 60 cloth banners with the Cross painted on them, and gave 1,000 Bible tracts in Nepalese to Eternal Life Church in reaching the Nepalese people. Our students made a special bond with the kids in the apartment complexes at which we worked. It was amazing to see them sell out and be the hands and feet of Jesus! Thanks to all who donated crayons, drinks, and other supplies for the trip. They were so helpful in helping us minister to the refugees. Thank you for your prayers. Please continue to pray for the people and the work in the DFW area being led by Kika and Raju. Keep Looking UP,

The love of money is the root of all evil. A deacon should not pursue dishonest gain. For this reason, no deacon should engage himself either privately or corporately with others in the sale, distribution, or use of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs. (I Timothy 3:8)

Holding to the mystery of faith with a clear conscience A deacon should be an earnest follower of Christ, sound in his faith. (I Timothy 3:9)

Tested and proven A deacon is one to be seasoned in the faith, spiritually mature, and not a new Christian. It takes time for a man to be tested and proven as to his character, his ability to make wise decisions, and his commitment to the program ministries of the church. For this reason, each candidate for deacon must be at least 25 years of age and must have been a member of First Baptist Church for at least one year before being considered for the office of deacon. Each deacon should be a tither (Malachi 3:10); his lifestyle should be that of witnessing for Christ; he should be fully aware that he represents Christ and the church everywhere; he should be faithful in attendance in regularly scheduled meetings of Grow Groups, worship and outreach, always strengthening and encouraging the fellowship. Each deacon is expected to participate fully in the deacon ministry plan. He should be blameless in light of Christian morals and ethics. (I Timothy 3:10)

Husband of only one wife Only males shall be eligible for the office of deacon. Neither a deacon nor his wife shall ever have had more than one living spouse. A deacon shall not practice polygamy. (I Timothy 3:12)

Managing well his children and household A deacon who is married should have a faithful and dignified wife and he should be an exemplary head of household. He should train his children in the wisdom of God, make wise decisions in leading the family into spiritual maturity, and handle home relationships well so the family is motivated toward the Lord. (I Timothy 3:11-12) See deacon nomination sample on Page 5.

READING THE BIBLE THROUGH We have already had some really hot weather. Do you have days when you feel like you need refreshing? Do you have those days when you could use something to brighten your outlook? Do you sometimes wish for something that is pure and dependable? What about something that will never depreciate in value? Where can you turn for those desires? God’s Word! Psalm 19:7-11 says, “The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward.” Too often we think of the Scriptures as rules or do’s and don’t, but this passage tells us that God’s Word is just the opposite. God’s Word rejuvenates our spirits. The Word gives us wisdom, restores joy to our hearts, gives us direction and makes us better people. It provides wisdom and warnings to keep us on the right path and help us to be successful. So do you need some refreshing, some encouragement, some direction, some guidance? Then take some time this month and let God’s Word fulfill all those needs in your life. God bless you as you take in His Word.

Thankful for Teachers No matter your age, if you are in a Grow Group Bible study on Sunday morning, someone works hard to prepare to teach you or your children each week. Have you thought about the time and energy and effort they put in each week? I am so thankful for our Bible teaching team. We are fortunate to have great teachers from bed babies to senior adults. Please take time to pray for your teacher(s) and be sure to thank them for their ministry of teaching and leading yours and your children’s classes. Also please continue to pray for our family ministry team as we seek God’s leadership for those who will be serving on our teaching team for the coming year.

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH DAY SCHOOL is searching for two qualified teachers to teach five days a week in the fall. If you have previous teaching experience and are interested, please contact Christine at the Day School Office (718-0018) or stop by and pick up an application. The Day School is in need a double stroller (preferably with front/rear seats). If anyone has a gently used double stroller, we would appreciate you considering donating it for use by our infants, creepers and toddlers. Thank you!

World Changers July 20-25 We will be hosting World Changers here at our church again this year. We will have 130 plus students and adults as our guests. They will be working on homes of needy people in our community and sharing the Good News of Jesus’ love for that week. We will need a lot of help to make it happen. They will be sleeping, eating and worshipping together at FBC. We will need many volunteers serving breakfast and dinner, cleaning restrooms and showers, working with our security team, running materials to jobsites and delivering popsicles to the workers. If you would be willing to serve in one or more of those roles, please contact Ricky or Lee and get signed up to help.
