CELEBRATING WOMEN THROUGH COLLINGWOOD STREET ART Three local artists have been cast in a striking mural on the Collingwood office wall of the Minister for Planning and Member for Richmond, Richard Wynne. The accomplished artists, all women, were chosen for the mural thanks to their contribution to Melbourne’s art scene and their roots in Melbourne’s creative inner city community. Internationally renowned street artist Rone created the mural, which was commissioned to coincide with 2016’s International Women’s Day on March 8. The three artists, who live and work around the Richmond electorate, are:   

Miso, otherwise known as Stanislava Pinchuk, who creates pinpricks work on paper and is one of the youngest artists featured at the National Gallery of Australia Bianca Chang, known for her sculpture and work with paper Hana Davies, a photographer who works exclusively with film

Mr Wynne invited Catherine Andrews, wife of Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, to inspect the mural’s progress while work was underway ahead of International Women’s Day. Mr Wynne worked with the City of Yarra and local street art and graffiti management agency, Juddy Roller, to take the mural from a concept to a dramatic addition to the Collingwood streetscape. Juddy Roller commissioned Internationally-acclaimed street artist Rone, who has been working around inner Melbourne for about 15 years and has exhibited in San Francisco, Berlin, London and Paris. Quotes attributable to the Member for Richmond Richard Wynne “As the work of Miso, Bianca Chang and Hana Davies becomes more widely known, it is fitting we mark their presence in inner Melbourne.” “Street art around Smith Street adds so much to Collingwood’s colour and character and I am proud that Rone agreed to add his talent to my office wall.” Quotes attributable to Catherine Andrews "This year's International Women's Day theme is 'pledge for parity', a call to action to recognise women's economic, social, cultural and political contributions, both paid and unpaid.” "This brilliant street mural is a gift to the Collingwood community celebrating three local artists whose talents know no boundaries.” Quotes attributable to Shaun Hossack of Juddy Roller “This mural presented a unique opportunity for collaboration between local and state government to showcase the growing medium of street art. “Juddy Roller is firmly committed to the promotion and empowerment of female artists, and we are so proud to have this reflected in this dynamic mural.” Media Contact: Rebecca Thistleton, 0416 510 724 | [email protected]
