Pastoral Search Committee Candidate Profiles Meeting Date: Oct. 13, 2013

Paul Austin

Joined in 2001. I am a Professor at Washington University School of Medicine and married to Kelley Austin for 23 years. Kelley and I have two sons, John Paul (17) and Lewis (14). I have continued to serve as usher for the 11:15 service for 12 years and served as a Deacon for two terms. I have served on the Worship committee and the Officers Nominating Committee of the Congregation. I have participated and led in a variety of ministries at CPC, e.g. Discipleship by Design, Father/Son. God has graciously given and equipped each of us gifts to glorify Him. I am humbled to be nominated to serve on the Pastor Search Committee. If it is God’s will and with the Holy Spirit’s guidance and wisdom, I will do my prayerful best to collaborate and contribute respectively and positively with other team members of the Pastor Search Committee.

Joined in 1995. Ruth and I have four children: Eli (14) attends Westminster Christian Academy; Joshua (8) and Elizabeth (6), both attend Central Christian School; and Joseph (2). I currently serve as legal counsel for the church and as parliamentarian from time to time. In the past, I have served as a deacon and taught a number of semesters of adult Sunday school. I had not considered serving on the committee until being asked by two CPC members if I would consent to being nominated. After prayer and consideration, I agreed. I believe that God has called me to serve Central in those areas where He has given me the skills and talents to contribute. I believe that I have the organizational skills, knowledge of CPC’s history, patience and demeanor to contribute to the committee. I have worked closely with CPC’s pastors and staff over the years and have a good sense what I believe is needed for the new pastor.

Steve Boemler

Joined in 2004. I have been married to Rosa Brefeld for 10 years. I have three children and one step daughter. Also, I have one grandson. I am serving Central as a member of the Chancel Choir. Rosa and I have been members of the Central congregation for 10 years. I came from a smaller congregation where I had held many key church positions, including choir director and Sunday school teacher. I also served on other church committees including pastoral and personnel committees. I believe I can add to the quality of the discussion because of my past experiences. I feel that God has honed my skills and talents and they can be used for the benefit the well-being of this congregation. I want to offer my time to the betterment of Central Presbyterian Church.

Allen Boggs

Joined 2004. I am married to Katie and have three grown children. I am currently a Co-C Group Leader, on the Shepherding Commission, and an elder not currently serving on the Session. I am drawn to serve on the Search Committee because of the love I have for Central Pres. I also feel that having lived in five cities during my life and having been exposed to different local bodies in each might give some experience to draw on when searching for a senior pastor. Thirdly having attended Covenant Seminary along with church experience over the years I would hope will bring value added to our search. pastoral search committee candidate profiles

Sam Chimento

Joined in 1992. Anita and I have been married for nineteen years and we have 4 children; Jacob (16), Lucas (14), Rebecca and Lincoln (11). Previously I have served three terms as elder and taught multiple Sunday school classes. I believe I understand the essentials of the Reformed faith and what characteristics and beliefs a pastor must have to successfully lead our church.

Jill Clayton

Joined in 2009. I live in Overland with my husband, John, and rescued dog, Jasmine. Currently I sing in the choir and serve on the choir advisory council. I feel I may be being called to serve because of the love I have for Christ’s church, and the zeal I feel to seek its peace and unity. Having grown up in the Presbyterian church, and having attended Covenant College, I understand the importance of solid, biblical teaching. I would endeavor to humbly serve Christ’s church, and seek God’s man for Central’s new pastor.

Erv Dunkel

I joined in 1958 upon returning to St. Louis from military service as an Air Force officer and pilot. My wife Kay and I have been happily married for 57 years. We have 4 grown daughters and 10 grandchildren. I am currently an elder. I attend Equip Central; have been attending Wednesday Men’s Fellowship Luncheon for over 30 years serving as M.C. and giving personal testimony; my wife and I have served as co-leaders of a Sunday evening “C” group. Many Central friends have asked me to serve on this Search Committee because God gave me a role in bringing Dan Doriani to our Church ten years ago although I was not on the Search Committee at that time. After careful consideration and prayer with God’s guidance, I pledge to serve to the best of my ability if chosen.

David Dunlap

Joined in 1988. My wife, Lisa, and I have been married 27 years. We have three children - Emma is married and lives in Kansas City; Cooper is in college in Michigan, and Sophie is in High School at Westminster Christian Academy. I currently lead the Shepherding Commission of the Session, which works to restore broken relationships and resolve discipline issues at Central. I also drive the shuttle bus for Sunday morning worship services. Although I will never feel fully prepared to serve on our Pastoral Search Committee, I believe God has equipped me with some of the tools needed in the evaluation process and placed a burden on my heart to use them to the best of my ability, if called. I have had the honor of interviewing and selecting many people over the last several years. I have hired engineers for Boeing, helped select Central Presbyterian Church officers while leading the ONCC, helped select the Head of Central Christian School as a member of a CCS Headmaster Search Committee, and confirmed the evidence of faith of new CPC members as an elder. These experiences have taught me methods to examine and evaluate the unique gifts of people and the importance of placing them in roles that utilize those gifts.

Sandy Egertson

Joined in 2008. I am married to Joe Egertson and we have two grown sons, Jordan and Sam. I am currently a Bible study leader (past three years) on Thursday mornings for women’s ministries under Hillary Coffee. Prior to that, I served as a Bible study leader with Bible Study Fellowship for ten years, on staff for three. I agreed to have my name submitted for the Pastor Search Committee because I desire great leaders for Central Presbyterian and I’m excited about whom God is calling as our Senior Pastor…..someone with a passion, knowledge and a heart for God and the scriptures. With that in place, a love and a heart for people should be obvious. I hope my years of Bible study will help give discernment.

Jeff Holtz

Joined in 1969. I am married to Josie and have two sons, Michael and John, who both attended Central Christian School. Recently I joined the prayer ministry. Previously in 1997 & 2001 I was a deacon and chairman of the compassion committee. I graduated from Covenant Seminary 2007, MA (summa cum laude). I grew up at Central and have a strong bond with its tradition and reformed theology. At Covenant Seminary I was the Director of Media where I founded our radio ministry and put the sermons on our website. Great preaching is a hobby and Josie and I have traveled the country visiting churches and hearing the word of God. I have felt a calling to bring my experiences to the Search Committee and I am open to the Holy Spirit informing my judgments in finding a new Senior Pastor.

Jim Fiala, Jr.

Joined in 1978. My wife Melissa and I have three children, Lily, Luke and Samuel. Currently I am an elder serving on the Personnel Committee. I have a passion for the preaching of God’s word in this world. I study the calling of the pastor and I love this church that God has assembled here in Clayton. I truly would love to see the blessing of a Godly, humble leader leading us in a broken world proclaiming Jesus as Lord. I believe God has given me this desire and I had no idea how I would ever use this learning, but with people asking me to serve as a member of the search committee I can see that this may be where God is calling me. I know this is a huge commitment and my wife Melissa has agreed to sacrifice to allow me to serve if I am called on by the congregation, and that is a mighty work of God.

David Gill

Joined in December 2011. I am a single grad student; my parents are also members of Central Presbyterian Church. I am a substitute teacher for Neal Nielsen’s class, as well as a worship leader for both the 11:15 and Trio services. I most recently took over direction of the Carol Choir after Debbie Doriani stepped down. I believe God often leads us as a community using a variety of age groups and life experiences. I desire to bring my gifts and knowledge about ministry and other subjects, using them to help Central find someone who will preach the Gospel to us week in, week out.

Bill Gladney

Joined in 1981. Liz and I have been married for 34 years and have three married daughters and three grandchildren. Both married daughters living in St. Louis are CPC members. Currently I am a ruling elder, co-leader in a C-Group and a small group bible study leader. God works through His Spirit and through the work of His people. I have had a number of people ask if I would be willing to serve again on the Pastor Search Committee. After prayer and contemplation I have agreed to allow my name to be put forward as a nominee. Liz and I have been Central members for over 30 years. We love this church and have supported and stood by Central continually. My three daughters have all come to know the Lord through Central. I have served on many search committees over the past 15 years as an elder and, Lord willing, can bring a degree of experience to the process if the congregation so chooses. It is an honor to be nominated and a responsibility to be taken seriously if elected.

Steve Hurst

Joined Central in 2007. My wife, Robin, and I have been married over 20 years. We value our church life at Central as we are both engaged in church activities including Missions, C-Group, EquipCentral and Sunday school classes. Robin and I attend Bible Study Fellowship; Robin is in her 8th year, I’m in my 10th year overall and in my 7th year of leadership. I am a deacon serving my second three-year term. My primary diaconate responsibility is leading the Parking and Transportation Committee; I also serve on the Worship and Music Ministry Team. Additionally, I’ve been an usher at the early service and many special events for nearly 6 years. I believe God is calling me to this unique opportunity to better serve Him with my talents and abilities. In my life, He’s prepared me for special opportunities by challenging me to expand and grow in my service to Him. I see this is an opportunity to leverage my varied business skills and experiences to serve Him.

Jeremiah Jobe

Joined in 2004. I have been married to Bethany for 9 years and we have two girls, ages 5 and 2. My mother- and father-in-law, Barb & David Havens, attend Central. I am currently serving as a deacon and will finish my term at the end of 2014. I am an usher even months for 11:15 a.m. service. I am also on the snow clearing team and volunteer for CCS events. Most recently, I’ve joined a Men’s Bible Study that meets on Wednesday nights. For the past year, with changes in the pastoral staff and building project plans, my family and I have been praying for the future of the church and stability for the congregation. In my day job, I recruit physicians for hospitals and have a good understanding of the candidate search process. I know how to ask qualifying questions description to enable a “fit” based upon the needs of an organization. I believe God can use my skills to help find the right pastor to lead Central forward.

Susan Klotz

Joined in 1986. My husband David and I have 3 adult daughters. We enjoy worshiping with them at the Clayton Campus and at West County Fellowship. We delight in seeing our 3 grandsons growing up in a gospel community; they are the 4th generation of Klotz’s to worship at Central, Praise God! I am always open to serve Central whenever possible. I have served on the youth committee by attending mission trips, teaching Sunday school and hosting youth group in our home. I have chaired the Women’s Christmas Gathering for the last 3 years, bringing a special Christmas message to women of Central and their guests. We have been in a C Group for 9 years and frequently host the group in our home. Serving on the set up, hospitality and special events committees at WCF for the last 3 years has been exciting and a blessing. I am honored to be nominated to serve on this committee and I have deep respect for the work that will be done. I am open to God’s calling and willing to commit my time, energy and faith to the process of searching for a new pastor. I know that God has a special team of men and women already selected to serve, I believe he may be calling me because he knows I love His church and I have a heart and passion for the people here. He knows my participation in this committee will be grounded in prayer for His will.

James Kragenbring

Joined in 2005. My wife, Vickie Lynne Kragenbring, is my immediate family. We have two adult sons and two adult daughters. Currently I am active in worship service attendance, giving, prayer, Gleaners Class, Wednesday Men’s Luncheons, exhortation of members. I do not like committees, yet I agreed to be nominated. I am most interested in making certain that the Senior Pastor is qualified to fill the role of: “Pastor for Preaching and Vision” for Central; a man who will exposit God’s word verse-by-verse as he teaches through the books of the Bible. We need a man who wants to teach God’s people in applying His words to our lives above all other duties.

Jeff Lindstrom

Joined in 1993. I am married to Dawn and we have two sons and two daughters. Presently I am serving as a Deacon and a member of the ONCC and a member of the 4th Grade Teaching Team on Sunday Morning. I am not certain God is calling me, but I am open to serving if called by the congregation. I believe God has given me a sense of the challenges facing the relevancy of His Word/Truth in regards to the current world spirit that would make me a useful member of the team.

Marilyn Mackris

I became a member of Central Presbyterian Church in 1963. I took a leave of membership due to illness and personal trial around 1990 but returned to my home church in 2004. I have five grown children, all who have grown up at Central, CCS and WCA. All but one live in other parts of the country along with my seven grandchildren. I am single, divorced, living on my own in Richmond Heights, MO. I am currently serving the Church through Women in Ministry where I am a leader in Spiritual Growth and Nurture. I am also active with the Missions Team. Previously I was on staff when Dr. Jumper was here and had a Bible study ministry, God’s Light for Living, which I wrote and taught weekly as Community Outreach for the Church. I am called and deeply dedicated to daily prayer ministry for the Church, nation and world. I feel called to this search committee based on my strong Biblical and theological background (MA Biblical Studies, Covenant Seminary 1981). I am solidly grounded and mature through years of church participation and experience. I love this Church and its true Leader, Jesus Christ, and will diligently pursue His choice for our new pastor with spiritual discernment and prayer.

Bob Mark

Joined in 1978. My wife Jane Ellen and I have four married daughters, three of whom are active members of Central: Melanie Wood, Mary Catherine Kirby, and Laura Bush; our third daughter, Emily Remington, lives in Birmingham, Alabama. We are blessed to have eight grandchildren. I am currently serving on the Session and am vice-chairman of the Spiritual Formation ministry team and chairman of the Adult Education committee. I also chair the Discovery-Membership team and teach Discovery-Membership classes. As a member of Session, I am honored to be nominated to serve on this committee and feel it my responsibility and privilege to be willing to do so. My ministry passion over the years (Bible Study Fellowship, Central Christian School, Westminster Christian Academy, and Central Church, including Discovery-Membership) has been teaching and discipleship; this would be the dominant perspective I would bring to our church’s search for a new senior pastor.

Tom McCarthy

Joined in 1980. I have been married for 40 years to my wife Missy (Marilyn). We live in Kirkwood and have two adult children, one daughter-in-law, one grandson. In the past I have been a deacon, elder (since 1989), preschool Sunday school teacher (10 yrs) and adult Sunday school teacher (4 yrs). I also led program development and curriculum committees and a search committee for program staff. For the last 8 years I have had no opportunity to serve directly at CPC. However, I am on the board of a local prison ministry supported by Central and an international Christian educational resources organization. Scripture tells us the church is the body of Christ: chosen by God, redeemed by Christ and indwelled by the Holy Spirit. We serve God by ministering to one another and the world demonstrating the power of His grace and love. As a body we are an organism where every part is vital--not an organization to be managed or shaped by will or whim. Our primary need is for a pastor to live alongside us, to minister and model ministry to the whole congregation. I have the perspective of experience at Central, the EPC and the larger Evangelical community to help seek a person who can minister to and with us and equip us to become effective servants of God for His purposes.

Michael McGehee Joined in 1988. Candidate bio not submitted.

Shelly Milligan

I am single and joined Central in 2003. Currently I’m finishing my second year on the ONCC. I have served on a number of search committees for senior level positions in my work context (Washington University in St. Louis), most recently a Chief Information Officer. I understand the complexities of the search process, from finalizing an appropriate and attractive position description to keeping confidence at all stages of the process to recruiting the top-choice candidate. If this is where the Lord (through the congregation’s vote) would like for me to serve, I will do my best.

Neal Nielsen

Joined in 1988. Mary and I have four grown children and four grandchildren. All live in the St. Louis area. Currently I serve on the Mission Committee, as a ruling elder, and the teacher of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. I have a deep conviction of our need for a true shepherd as our next pastor. The church is in great need at this time for a healing spirit. God may be calling me to be a discerning voice on the committee.

Annette Phillips

Joined in 1967. Bill and I have been members of Central for 48 years. We have three children grown children who were raised and nurtured in the admonition of the Lord at Central. Over the years I have served in too many leadership rolls at Central to mention. A few of the most memorable were: 5 nominating committees, serving on the School board that voted to recreate Central School for the Young Years into Central Christian School, serving on the Nursery committee that started PEEPS and redesigned the nursery, serving with New Members Committees and starting a ministry to the moms of children active at Sunshine Mission. I have been privileged to serve the EPC at the General Assembly level by serving 6 years on the Women in Ministry Leadership Committee and the Women in Ministry Committee at the Presbytery level for 6 years. I have friends and contacts in every Presbytery and am committed to reestablishing our heritage and participation in the EPC. I believe God is calling me to serve on this committee because of my great love this church (congregation) and my great love for the EPC.

Jim Pohlman

Joined in 2003. Judy and I have been married for 29 years. We have 4 children: Kellie, Philip, Grace, all who are married, and Emma who is a senior at Westminster Christian Academy. I recently completed my 29th year as an Investment Manager. My service at CPC has and is in the areas of ushering, leading DbD groups, and completing my 6th year as a Deacon, of which I served as Chairman in 2012. Judy and I have been active in our C-Group for about 8 years. I believe God may be calling me to serve due to my perspective, which has been developed from a past church experience in another denomination, the desire to uphold a Reformed Theology, the past teaching of Dr. Doriani and a love of the people at CPC. I believe our next pastor must continue the long history at Central of teaching God's work faithfully and Biblically and embracing worship that is honoring to Him.

Deborah Belleau Primm

Joined in 2011. I am married to Lawson Primm; we were married at Central in November, 1992. I am serving as the 6th grade girls Sunday school teacher and I am a Spring Storm volunteer. Since Dan’s announcement, the pastoral selection process has been in my daily prayers; specifically, my prayer is and has been that our church, in unity, will conform its thoughts during this process and its choice to the will of God who has already chosen someone for us. Upon being asked whether my name could be submitted to serve on the Pastor Search Committee, I prayed and sought God’s response for me. As for His reason for calling me to serve in this capacity, I do not know specifically, but His reason may relate to my prayers for our church.

Patricia Reed

I have been a member at Central since 1989, and been a volunteer in a number of ministries including children's Sunday school, Discipleship by Design and lay renewal. My husband Brent and I have been married 30 years and have one daughter, Andrea, who is a senior at Westminster Christian Academy. I have been a children's Sunday school teacher for over 20 years. In the 24 years I have been a member at Central I have seen God's immeasurable grace and faithfulness to our church family. We have been richly blessed. It is with much joy that I feel called to serve on the Pastor Search Committee. God is faithful and I look forward to seeking His will for our new Pastor.

Ken Romines

Joined in 1981. Candidate bio not submitted.

Ellen Schmidt

Joined in 1978. Eric and I have been married for 45 years. We have two married daughters living in California and New York. We also have five grandchildren. Currently I am serving as a co-facilitator of a Thursday morning women’s Bible study. God has given me a great love for Central Presbyterian Church, both historically and currently in worship. After a time of prayer for our church body and our need for a new pastor, I was approached by members who had also been praying to consider serving on the committee. I willingly submit to whomever the congregation selects.

Alan Shaffer

Joined in 1984. My sweet wife, Sue, went to be with the Lord on June 15th. We have three married daughters, Carrie Kimball, Becky Kurth and Jenny Schaeffer. Their husbands are David, Kelly and Tim. Kelly is an associate pastor at an EPC church in Frankfort, IN, namely First Presbyterian. They have blessed us with 11 grandkids. Carrie's family lives in Shreveport, LA, Becky's in Frankfort, IN and Jenny's are here. All attend and are active in Christian churches. Jenny's attends Central. My mother, Dorothy Lubin, is 95 years old and is at St. Peter's Manor, a nursing home. I attend the Toole Gang on Mondays and MFL on Wednesdays. I am a member of the team that gets the speakers at MFL. I am also Captain of the Communion Team for the 8:30 AM service. My adult Sunday School class that I led for 8 years, "It's A Wonderful Life", was forced to shutdown last year or I would still be teaching. Five people told me they were nominating me for the search committee. I have not campaigned to get on the committee. The Holy Spirit never told me to remove my name and if He doesn't want me to serve He will make the move to remove my name. I am open to His call.

Bradley Smith

Joined in December 2011. Married for fourteen years and have a son, age 10, and a daughter, age 8. I am currently serving in a Monday morning bible study with CCS dads. I am in the Officers Training Class on Wednesday nights and teach 4th grade Sunday School. I know God has already selected a man to be our pastor. We don’t know who that person is and God has placed it on my heart to pray for this search for a new shepherd at Central. Jesus is the shepherd and to participate in this search gives us a chance to participate with Him in his redeeming work. It should be an individual who maintains that foundation in Christ and continues strong biblical teaching typical of Central in addition to their pastoral duties.

Lisa Smout

Joined in 2002. I will have been married to Scott for 15 years in Nov. We have 3 children: Claire 13, Emma 11 and Sam. I am a stay at home mom serving my family for the past 8 years. Worked as a Physical Therapist prior to that. Currently l Co-lead the Thursday morning Psalms/ Proverbs Bible study for women. Previously I taught children’s Sunday school and served at VBS and spring storm. I care about this decision deeply. I love Central and realize the importance of the senior pastor search as we move forward as a church in St. Louis and the world. I cannot think of any better way to honor God than by serving my church in this very important process that we are about to undergo. I would be honored to be trusted with such a responsibility and will be faithful in prayer for God to provide Central with continued solid teaching and strong leadership.

Molly Snyder

I began attending in the fall of 2000, joined in the spring of 2003. I am married to Todd and have two young children, Clara (2 yrs) and Keegan (4 yrs). I love all of them a whole lot. I'm currently helping Blythe in Children's Ministry and we love having families over for dinner, including hosting the New Membership dinners as often as possible. I feel called to at least make myself available to the possibility of serving on the search team and then see how the Lord leads. I love Central and I care deeply for both the staff and the congregation. While it sounds like a large responsibility, and nobody is entirely sure of anything this early in the process of finding the Pastor God has for us, I do recognize the unique gifting and skills the Lord has given me over the last several years which may serve our church in the transition. I have a Master's Degree from Covenant Seminary, I have been on staff at Central, I am raising my family here, I am invested.

Brian Speicher

Started attending in 2012 and became members soon after. Sue Ellen and I married in 1999 and have three children who attended CCS for several years. I am currently a teacher for our preschool children for Sunday school. (I teach for a living and enjoy it immensely - so have taught in various grades of Sunday School for the past ten years). Just recently I got plugged in at Central and am teaching in the Koala room currently. I was asked, and I am willing to serve on the Pastor Search Committee. I have an analytical mind and enjoy asking questions and hopefully can represent the portion of the congregation that is in the same life situations as ourselves.

Ken Vitor

Joined Central in 1992. My wife Julie and I have been married for 14 years and share the love of two children and four grandchildren. Currently I am a small group leader and have 10 plus years serving as a deacon. I am a member of the Resource Management Committee, the Building Committee, have served on the ONCC, Pastor Advisory Committee, and as a Discipleship by Design leader. I maintain ongoing male mentor relationships. I spent considerable time praying on whether it was God’s will that I should submit my name for consideration, and it will be God’s will whether I am chosen. I have sought the advice and counsel of others who served on previous pastoral search committees as to the time requirement and how they proceeded in their searches and am willing to make the same commitment. I seek to hear the sweet gentle whisper of God and to be obedient.

Barb Wait

Joined in 1994. My husband Scott and I have been married 19 years and have three children, Samuel (15), Betsy (14), and Martha (10). I co-lead a women's Bible study on Friday mornings and I volunteer with the Student Central youth group on Sundays. Since last year when Dr. Doriani preached Isaiah's words "Here am I. Send me," I have earnestly prayed that the Lord would send me as his servant to do his kingdom work in whatever way he sees fit. I have NOT heard the voice of the Lord say "Go! Serve on the Pastoral Search Committee," but I have heard from several Central members asking me if I would be willing to serve in this capacity. I love our church family, care deeply about the future of Central and trust that the Lord will work out his good plan in and through his church.

Dennis Wiggers

Joined in 1999. I have been married to my wife Rosemary for 48 years. We have four adult married daughters who are actively serving in Church and School Ministries. We have nine grandchildren, two girls and seven boys. I am currently serving Central as a Ruling Elder, Chairman of Congregation Care, Chancel Choir, C-Group and Shepherding. In my lifetime I have worshipped in many different congregations and have personally grown in my faith through the preaching of The Word, teaching of The Word, prayed for and cared for by the Pastors. I am honored and humbled to be asked to serve the Lord in this capacity as a member of the CPC search committee, to actively search for a Senior Pastor, of God's choice to serve at Central Presbyterian Church. In my professional career as Director of Engineering in a Material Handling Company, The Lord guided me to interview and hire many different people to fill the various unique job openings. I count it a blessing to use my skills in this most important endeavor of searching, interviewing and calling our next Senior Pastor.

Kristi Williams

I have been regularly attending Central since the summer of 2001 and officially joined the church in Fall of 2010. I have been blessed with wonderful parents who live in NJ and an older brother who lives in Ohio. I am currently serving at Central by helping to teach the 3rd grade Sunday School, co-leading a Community Group, and participating in the Sunday Morning Prayer Room ministry. I've really been blessed during my time at Central to have been a part of several different communities within the church actively involved in how we worship, study, and fellowship with one another. I believe that God could use my heart for prayer and experience with the various ministries here to help inform our search for our next pastor.
