Celebrating a Decade of Godly Leadership For the past ten-plus years, the Central community - our members, staff, visitors, and ministry partners have been blessed by the steadly, Godly leadership of Dr. Dan Doriani. Together with his wife Debbie, the Dorianis have faithfully ministered here, helping us grow in our knowledge and understanding of the Gospel and our love for Christ. Through Christ, Dan has sought to help us know the Lord, and find hope and meaning in our lives.

"Dan cares deeply for the flock” noted Tim Page. “Several years ago I shared with him my heartache for my dad, who at the time was not a believer. For months, Dan prayed for my dad. He gave me resources and ideas to help me engage my dad. A year later, the Lord opened my dad's heart to the gift of salvation. Dan played a big part in that transformation, and I give thanks and praise to God for how he used Dan to reach my dad." Central’s Director of Missions and Outreach, Randy Mayfield will miss Dan’s leadership and wry sense of humor, but is looking forward to leading a missionary conference in Greece together next month. “I’ve known Dan for

many years, even before he came to Central. While our personalities are different, (I’m so deep and reflective and he’s really out there!) we get along well and our families have spent some fun evenings battling it out playing board games and breaking bread together. The Dorianis are very competitive by the way, especially the girls!” “He’s been a good friend and co-worker and I have a feeling we will continue to do God’s work together in the future.”

Thank you Dan and Debbie for a wonderful decade!

We hope you Dan literally lending a hand can join in the actually two! - at this year’s “Family Farewell Thrive event at Central Celebration” for Dan and Debbie Doriani, Sunday, Sept. 29 at 12:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Come celebrate God’s faithfulness to Central Presbyterian Church, and with grateful hearts thank Dan and Debbie for answering God’s call to lead and love us.

Micah Project Vision Trip Recap by Todd Denholm “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 This verse has been a comfort to me since I was a young Christian but it took a street kid called Noe to help me truly understand it for the first time. As our group was walking down to the alleyway where many of the Micah boys used to live, Noe asked if he could jump on my back. As we walked he became heavier and heavier. I knew that he was asleep when the bottle of glue, which he had held so close, crashed to the street below us.

As I have processed our brief trip down to the Micah Project in Honduras, this moment has stuck in my mind. What Michael Miller and his staff have done over the years is provide a place where boys from the streets could find the rest of Jesus. The rest they provide through the love of the gospel has allowed young boy after young boy to give up their addictions and broken lives, and enter into God’s restorative work through Jesus. Experiencing a few days with these boys showed me a tangible Pastor Todd Denholm picture of what Jesus has done in my own heart, and the rest that I can continue to find in the arms of gives a sleeping Noe a ride through town my heavenly father. Prayer Requests •

Pray for Noe. He did spend one night in the Micah house while we were there, but immediately returned to the streets the next morning. Pray that the Holy Spirit would work in his heart to accept what is offered to him.

Pray for wisdom for Michael Miller and the rest of the Micah Project leadership as they examine growth opportunities for the ministry. With the new house there is capacity for growth as well as opportunities for new ministry in the old Micah house. Pray that they can be strategic in their decisions and clearly discern where God is leading the ministry at this time.

Pray for the transition to the new Micah house. It is amazing what the Lord has provided but this change is also going to provide many logistical challenges for the staff. Prayer for wisdom and strength in their coming months of transition.

2013-14 Concert Series Kickoff

God has created man to be in community. The recent Trio sermon series (available at www.centralpres.com or via our app) does a wonderful job helping us understand our need for relationships. Making these connections can be challenging however.

The Ugandan Orphans Choir, a group of ten talented Ugandan children, regularly delights audiences across the United States with traditional African songs and dances. The choir has performed nationwide at churches, schools, Disneyland, and even on the steps of the White House. The Ugandan Orphans Choir is a ministry of Childcare Worldwide, which has been dedicated to empowering children in the developing world since 1981.

Central’s many Sunday school classes and small groups are a wonderful way to get plugged in, meet new people, and “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” With opportunities for all ages, Central offers something for every member of your family. All of the following classes are offered Sundays at 9:45 a.m. We hope you will visit one today!

Be sure to join us on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m., as you will enjoy an energetic and unique performance of traditional African song and dance and worship songs in English with an African flair. This concert also marks the beginning of the 2013-2014 Central Concert Series.
