CERTIFICATION REGARDING AUTHORIZED TRAVEL TO, FROM, AND WITHIN CUBA (31 C.F.R. PART 515)

Since the beginning of 2015, the U.S. Government has eased certain sanctions against Cuba. Despite these changes, the U.S. Government still maintains comprehensive sanctions against Cuba. Of particular note, U.S. law does not permit travel to/from/within Cuba for tourist activities. The U.S. Government does permit travel to/from/within Cuba that meets the criteria of one of 12 authorized travel categories identified in the “Certification” below. Therefore, in order to stay at a Starwood hotel in Cuba, a traveler must complete the “Certification.” If you do not check a box under Section 1, you are certifying that you are not a person subject to the jurisdiction of the United States.

I hereby certify that I am a person subject to the jurisdiction of the United States because I am one of the following: U.S. citizen; U.S. green card holder; Resident of the United States; or Individual transiting the United States en route to Cuba (e.g., French citizen flying through Miami to Cuba).

Certification of Authorized Category

I certify that I satisfy criteria for a general license for travel to/from/within Cuba related to the following activity: Cuban family visits; Official business of the U.S. government, foreign governments, and certain intergovernmental organizations; Journalistic activity; Professional research and professional meetings; Educational activities, including people-to-people travel; Religious activities;

Public performances, clinics, workshops, athletic and other competitions, and exhibitions; Support for the Cuban people; Humanitarian projects; Activities of private foundations or research or educational institutes; Exportation, importation, or transmission of information or informational materials; Certain export transactions that may be considered for authorization under existing Department of Commerce regulations and guidelines with respect to Cuba or engaged in by U.S.-owned or -controlled foreign firms.
