Letter from the Board President Amazing! It was apparent that summer is in full swing on the shore. The turn out at our 52nd Annual Arts & Crafts Festival was fantastic. We hope you all had a chance to get out and enjoy this Old Saybrook tradition. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all our sponsors and volunteers. Liberty Bank, our major sponsor, has supported this event for many years along with our other sponsors Middlesex Hospital, Middlesex Hospital Urgent Care, Frontier Communications and Full Power Radio. The success of this event is also attributed to many contributions from the “Friends” of the Arts & Crafts Festival. Thank you to all of them! We would like to thank and acknowledge the 40+ dedicated volunteers that went above and beyond to make this event possible, and run so smoothly and successfully. Thank you!!! Lastly, a huge thank you to Karen, Judy and Meryl, your dedication, caring and support are the keys to the success of this event and the daily running of the OSCC.

We hope you all have a great rest of the summer and mark your calendars for July 30 & 31, 2016 for our 53rd Annual Arts & Crafts Festival. We truly hope to see you all there. Respectfully, Leigh-Bette Maynard and Lori Woll Co-Chairs of the Arts & Crafts Festival

From the Desk of the Executive Director I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Board of Directors for their support and confidence in me to provide me the opportunity to attend the Institute for Organization Management – the professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Institute educates participants on all facets of running a nonprofit organization. Its curriculum is comprised of 96 hours of instruction – over four week-long sessions – taught by university professors, industry experts and leading practitioners in the chamber and association industries. I have been attending the week-long sessions every summer since 2012 at Villanova University. I’m proud to share that I graduated on July 30th. It has been an amazing experience and the relationships I’ve developed with colleagues across the country are invaluable. I also need to give a shout out to both the NEACCE (New England Chamber of Commerce Executives) and CACCE (Connecticut Chamber of Commerce Executives) who have helped underwrite this educational experience through scholarships. I’m so grateful.

With our 52nd Annual Arts & Crafts Festival ‘in the books’ this August letter wouldn’t be complete without a huge thank you to all who helped in any way to make it a success. Lori Woll and Leigh-Bette Maynard, Festival co-chairs, worked tirelessly and gave many hours to ensure the success of the Festival. It truly is a community event with support from Public Works, Parks & Recreation, Board of Education, Police Department, Fire Department and The Kate. Our very generous sponsors: Liberty Bank, Middlesex Hospital, Full Power Radio, Middlesex Hospital Urgent Care and Frontier Communications. Thanks to all our festival Friends and many volunteers – many hands make light work! Thank you! Do you listen to ICRVradio? If not, what are you waiting for! ICRVradio is an internet radio station in Chester founded to facilitate discovery and commerce in the Lower River Valley. I had the pleasure of speaking with them on air about the Arts & Crafts Festival. What a great mission the team has to promote all the wonderful things the lower river valley has to offer. Give them a listen - you won’t be disappointed. Lastly but certainly not least – please keep a look out for your membership renewal notice. Dues are payable September 1st. Thank you for your continued support of the Old Saybrook Chamber of Commerce. All the best,

Judy

I think establishing trusted relationships with my clients is the key. Give them what they need on time and on budget, make good suggestions to help grow their business, but get to know them as human beings too.

Everyday is a new project. Today I am designing a logo and this afternoon I am delivering 5 posters to the Wallingford Library, meeting with two clients who manu-
