A Foreshadow of Events ATTENTiON is called to the Manuscript Requirements Guide on page •**- 1439 of this issue. Normally published in December, the Guide is presented at this time to anticipate several changes to be effected with the January 1967 issue. As most ACS members are aware, reorganization of the ACS pub lications took place in January 1965 to unite the research publications effort under one managerial philosophy. As part of this plan, the "Handbook for Authors" will be published early in 1967. I t is im portant to change our manuscript requirements at this time to be in accord with the Handbook. After deliberation and consultation with the Advisory Board, we have decided to adopt for the technical section of ANALYTICAL CHEM ISTRY a format similar to that used by most of the other ACS re search journals. The increased uniformity thus achieved will be con venient for authors who write for more than one of the research journals. Differentiation between the technical section of the journal and the "A" pages, or magazine section, will be enhanced by publication of the former in a two-column format. The "A" pages will maintain the present three-column make-up. Footnotes for literature references at the bottom of each column will bring us in line with the practices of most other ACS research journals, and will be more convenient for the reader. The April Review issues will, as in the past, continue to use an alphabetical list of references at the end of each article. Special attention is called to the abolishment of the former category of Scientific Communications which has outlived its usefulness as a medium for rapid publication inasmuch as all manuscripts are now processed without delay. The Correspondence category will be re stricted to brief disclosures of new analytical concepts or exchanges of comments between readers and authors. A new category, Notes, will present shorter manuscripts of more limited scope than full-length articles. It will include many of the contributions now appearing as Correspondence. Aids for Analytical Chemists will continue as in the past. To facilitate communication between the Washington and Urbana editorial offices, we have decided to require four, rather than three, manuscript copies. I t is hoped that advances in availability and con venience of duplication equipment will minimize the inconvenience of this added requirement. We hope that publication of the revised Manuscript Requirements Guide will promote a smooth transition, and that the new format will be attractive to our authors and readers alike.
