Elevating the Conversation One of the many strong offerings at St. Mary’s this month is a three-week series called Elevating the Conversation, which will be the Adult Formation class in the Sisters’ Chapel beginning Sunday February 16 at 10 am. The idea for the series sprang from an exceptional book by Andrew Marin, Love is an Orientation: Elevating the Conversation with the Gay Community. The book provides the foundation for the class, but please attend even if you do not have time to read as our conversation will expand beyond it.

A Word from your Clergy & Staff CANON’S CORNER

It is February, the month of love! And what’s not to love about February – lots of cold, chilly weather, gray clouds, rain and sleet… and yet, this is the same month celebrated with crazy, big, pink hearts, those addictive heart candies that say, “Be Mine” (or “Text Me” for the more tech savvy), and bold acts of love like proposals and first “I love you’s”.

waking up to some soon springtime. What creative planning and daring dreams might be pushing up? Maybe some clearing of the ground to make some way? Lent will be here soon. I dare you, I dare us all, to use that big heart to bold acts of love - to say I love you with abandon. To remind your neighbor they are God’s Beloved through smiles, kind words, an invitation to church. To write a note of gratitude to someone because they share this good world with you.

I’ve always thought that all this love and pink in the midst of a wintry and seemingly barren month was both challenge as well as gift. But Winter is necessary – we don’t have the flowers and the blooms in springtime without a time of wintertime. Dare to love more deeply this good month. Howard Thurman, author, leader, and dean of chapel Completely and freely. at Howard and Boston University, once said it like Laura+ this: “There is a fallow time for the spirit when the soil is barren…Face it! Then resolutely dig out dead roots, clear the ground, work out new designs by dreaming daring dreams and great and creative planning. The time is not wasted.” In other words, love and that big, pink heart beating inside you is BENCH NOTES FROM YOUR CHOIRMASTER/ORGANIST

FLOWER MINISTRY AT ST. MARY’S CATHEDRAL

Each Sunday the Altar at St. Mary’s is graced with two beautiful arrangements donated by parishioners. There are several ways to donate to the Flower Ministry in memory of, in thanksgiving for, or in honor of loved ones. Suggested donations are: Altar Flowers $125, Branches and Greenery during Lent $75, Paschal Candle $75, Baptismal Font $150, and Bread, Wine, and Candles $50.

Suggested donation for Easter lilies/palms and Christmas poinsettias and greenery is $25. If you would like to donate to the Flower Ministry, please call Jan Morrell at 575-3258 or [email protected] for

available dates and more information. We can always use more volunteers for bundling and delivering flowers during the year. Both are done on a rotating basis. Bundling of flowers is done after the 11:00 service and takes about 20 minutes. To volunteer, contact Carol Morris at [email protected].
