Church on Fire: The Birth of the Church Life Group Discussion Guide for August 26, 2018

1. Do you speak any other languages?

2. In what way is the Pentecost story a reversal of the Tower of Babel story? Why is this important? What implications does this have for us in our own lives?

3. Pentecost was the celebration of the giving of the law on Mt. Siani after the Passover and Exodus. What is important about the timing of God sending the Spirit to rest on Christ’s followers on Pentecost, 50 days after Christ’s death? Why does this matter for us?

4. In speaking their language, God meets people where they are to draw them to God. What “languages” might you speak that would allow you to share God with others where they are (teen, academic, sports, parent, etc) ?

5. How can we move from “waddling” to “flying” and transfer head knowledge to actual lived experience in our lives today? What might this look like in your neighborhood and among your circles of influence?

6. Spend time together in prayer, thanking God for sending the Spirit to dwell within us. Pray that we would be empowered by the Spirit to embody the example of Jesus in our lives, in our words, and in our actions. Pray that Otter Creek would be a witness to Nashville, to Tennessee, to the United States, and to the world.
