Communication Log Viewer This document describes about the Communication Log Viewer tool. This standalone small tool is designed to improve the Universal Discovery supportability. When you load a communication log into the tool, it automatically analyze and process the log, and present you the log messages in classified format, enabling you to perform Universal Discovery troubleshooting and pinpoint the root cause of an issue easily.

How to Use the Communication Log Viewer To use the communication log viewer, 1. Extract the Communication Log Viewer package. 2. Double-click CommunicationLogTool.jar to launch the Communication Log Viewer tool. The UCMDB Communication Log Viewer window opens. 3. Load a communication log using either of the following approaches: o

In the Choose a Communication Log dialog box, browse to the desired log file and click Open. o

In the Paste Communication Log dialog box, paste the log snippet that you want to view and click OK. 4. In the Job Basic Info pane, check the discovery job basic information on the Job Data, Destination Data, Protocol Data, Parameter Data, and Scanner Status tabs. 5. In the Log pane, type keywords in the Search box or select filters to display the log messages that you want to check. For more information about the Job Basic Info pen and the Log pane, see "Communication Log Viewer User Interface" on the next page.

Communication Log Viewer User Interface User interface elements are described below: Load Communication Log. Enables you to load a communication log. Click this button to browse and select a communication log that you want to view. Load Communication Log From Clipboard. Enables you to load communication log from clipboard. Clicking this button opens a clipboard, where you can paste the log that you want to view.

Job Basic Info Pane Displays basic information of a discovery job. User interface elements are described below: UI Element (A–Z)

Log Pane Displays detailed log messages. You can use the Search box and filters to display filtered log messages only. User interface elements are described below: UI Element (A–Z)

Search

Type keywords in the Search box to search log messages.

box Filters

Select one or more filters to display log information that match the filters only. If no filter is selected, the entire log is displayed. l

Connect. Displays all CONNECT log information. Normal success messages are displayed in green font color. Severity: info.

Execute CMD. Displays all EXECUTE CMD log information. Normal EXECUTE CMD messages are displayed in black font color. Severity: info.



l

Warning. Displays all warning messages in orange background. Severity: warn.

l

Error. Displays all error messages in red background. Severity: debug.

Displays the entire log or the filtered log messages. The log message list contains the following columns: l

Timestamp.Timestamp of the log message, displayed in the format of hh:mm:ss.

l

Severity. Severity level of a log message. Valid severity level values: info, debug, workflow-debug, and warn.

l

Content. Content of the log message.

Description You can click any of the above column headers to sort the log messages in ascending or descending order.

Workflow Navigator

(Available for the Inventory Discovery by Scanner job only) Displays the workflow navigation log history. You can drag the vertical slider to adjust the width of the Workflow Navigator pane.



Displays details of the selected log message. Processed Log tab. Displays the processed and formatted log.

For debug log messages, displays detailed debugging log message.

For warn log messages, displays detailed warning messages.

For info messages of Connect type, displays details of Connection Information and Client Properties.

For info messages of Execute CMD type, displays Start Time, Duration (in seconds), Command, and Result message.

Raw Log tab. Displays the original log in html code for the selected log
