Communion Prep: Unleavened Bread We hope you’ll make time to watch our online Good Friday Service, featuring a devotional by Pastor Jay and in-home Communion together. (Resources for families with young children will be included, too.) Since you’ll need unleavened bread for Communion, we’ve listed some options below. Unleavened bread can be bought or easily made at home: Buy Matzos bread (crisp bread flats that you break apart) or soft tortillas made without yeast. If you need a gluten-free option from the store, consider Good Thins simply salt rice snack crackers. Cook soft, unleavened bread cakes at home. The following recipe has been kitchen-tested and approved! We encourage you to make this a family project Friday if you have children at home. Even if you don’t typically bake bread, this on-the-stovetop recipe is quick (about 15 minutes) and easy to follow. Unleavened Bread Cakes ½ c. all-purpose flour 1/8 tsp. salt 3 Tb. water 5 tsp. olive oil (or vegetable oil) • • • •

Combine flour and salt in a medium-sized bowl. Add water and oil, stirring until a ball forms. Stir the ball in the bowl 10-12 times. Let dough rest 10 minutes.

• • •

Sprinkle counter with flour. Put dough on floured surface and cut dough in two. Roll each piece of dough into a thin 6-inch circle or square.

• • • • •

Heat a large skillet on medium for about 1 minute or until hot; add 2 tsp. oil. Cook bread pieces one at a time in skillet. (Add more oil for the second piece.) Cook 1½ minutes per side or until lightly browned. Sprinkle lightly with salt if desired. Place on wire rack to cool.
