WEEKLY FOCUS: 30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim

CONGREGATIONAL CARE

The Muslim worldview is one based on shame and honor,

determining the behavior of both children and adults based on whether it brings honor or shame to their family or village. In contrast, much of our Western worldview is based on a sense of the individual’s guilt or innocence. These differences in culture and ideology make coming to America and trying to fit in sometimes very confusing for a Muslim immigrant. It can also be confusing to American believers in Jesus who are reaching out and befriending those from this type of cultural upbringing. The good news is Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross not only cancels the guilt of our sin but also removes shame for all those who put their faith in him. God promises in Romans 10:11 “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame” and Psalm 31:17 also gives us hope, “Let me not be put to shame, O LORD for I call upon You.”

Thank You From the Deacons The deacons would like to thank those who contributed to our Benevolent offering. We collected $14,942 to help those in our congregation and our community.

Blodgett: Jack Tuinstra Prayer Chain: If you need prayer, contact Don & Cindy Marrell ([email protected]) at 450-9622. Bereaved We extend our Christian sympathy to Eunice Lanting at the homegoing of her husband, Harry Lanting, on May 25; to Scott & Lisa Barry at the homegoing of Scott’s mother, Elayne Barry, on May 27.

As we continue to pray for the Muslim world during this period of Ramadan, let us remember that God extends His forgiveness, grace and mercy to all who call on the name of Jesus. There is still a limited supply of the 30 Days prayer guides available at the Information Desk across from the Chapel for both adults and children. Be sure to stop to pick one up to learn more about Muslims, and specific ways to pray for them. Missionary Prayer Guides are available at the Information Centers to guide you as you pray for our global and community workers throughout the month of June. A summary of prayer requests is also available on Calvary’s website at http:// calvarygr.org/ministries/missions-outreach/current-missions-prayerrequests.
