FLORAL GUILD

Big changes are coming to the Agape ministry! We are expanding and updating our ministry from a small church mentality to the reality that we are a big church with a well-funded and growing Agape fund. We are working on opening an Agape office which would keep regular hours and be staffed by teams of well-trained volunteers. To do this we need many more volunteers! Volunteers would commit to a weekly shift and work as a team to interview clients, meet emergency financial needs, connect them to Chapel ministries and the Chapel family, and, most importantly, be the face of Christ to those in hardship within our community. Contact: Daniel Peyton, Agape Coordinator, 941-1212, [email protected]

SM SUMMER INTERNS MEET THE STUDENT MINISTRIES SUMMER INTERNS

Each summer, the Student Ministries team welcomes a group of incredible interns to join in our mission of making disciples. The internship program has five discipleship-related goals for each participant: to learn, to serve, to grow, to discern, and to sacrifice. We hope you will take the time to read more about each of this year’s interns and which of the five goals excites them most.

Maxwell Groene

Hi, my name is Maxwell Groene. I am a rising junior at the Virginia Military Institute. I was raised, for the most part, in Williamsburg, aside from two years in Nicaragua and one in Colombia when my dad worked for the embassy. When I returned to Williamsburg for 9th grade, I started attending the Williamsburg Community Chapel. My senior year at Jamestown High School I did the Chapel Student Ministries Mentorship, and that experience helped me decide two things: to go to VMI and to go into ministry. After graduating from VMI, I will be commissioned into the US Army, and I hope to be sent to seminary to become a chaplain. God has opened the door to being a Student Ministries Intern this summer, and I am excited to learn what He has planned for me. Playing a part in a team of spiritual leaders and working in church administration will help prepare me to be a chaplain. I am excited to further learn what it means to be a man of God possessing a deep and personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Gena Hernandez

My name is Gena Hernandez, and I’m going to be a senior at Christopher Newport University where I am studying social work. I live in Williamsburg and have gone to the Chapel since second grade. I love missions

and Student Ministries, so this internship is perfect for me. I can’t wait to work with all the students and help them grow in their faith. My goal for this internship is to get out of my comfort zone and challenge myself. I know that, through this internship, God will help me grow in my faith as well as who I am as a person.

Nick Mercer

My name is Nick Mercer, and I just finished my junior year as a religious studies major at the College of William and Mary. I was not born here, but since the age of three I have lived in Williamsburg, and I am proud to call this town my home and the Chapel my church home. I am very excited to do the Student Ministries Summer Internship for the second time. I grew up through middle and high school in Student Ministries, and I love being on the other side of ministry and getting the opportunity to see students experience what I’ve experienced. I feel like I have been blessed with the skills required to work with students, and I am excited to continue to discern my calling to youth ministry this summer as one of the Student Ministries Interns.

Meghan Musgrove

I’m Meghan, and I was born in Leesburg, Va. After my two sisters, Morgan and Mallory, were born, our family moved to Richmond. I currently attend the College of William and Mary where I play

for the varsity women’s soccer team. I am studying public policy with a minor in business and will graduate in 2016. This past year, I started leading a high school small group, and I am so excited to further my involvement with the Chapel this summer. As an intern, I am looking forward to serving in Student Ministries, and I am eager for all of the growth this service will bring.

Tommy Vereb

Originally from Sterling, Va., I just graduated from William and Mary with a religious studies major. Albeit challenging, my time in Williamsburg has been educational both inside and outside the classroom, and I’m excited to continue learning this summer. I love to sing and play guitar, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to help lead worship this past year, be it on the middle school ski trip, the Tribe Fellowship beach retreat, or Sunday morning student worship services. This summer I am most eager to better understand and be called to sacrifice. Chris Tiegreen writes on Acts 5:41, “Suffering isn’t painful when the cause for which we suffer is a deep affection in our heart. We’ll make any sacrifice for what we greatly prize.” Christ sacrificed himself for us in a manner that I’m sure was not convenient, but his love for us surpassed his suffering. I am most excited to learn about sacrifice in hopes to more fully see and appreciate who God is, who God sent, and who God sees when he looks at us.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY INTERN

Christie Geiling

Hello! My name is Christie Geiling and I am excited to be interning with the Children’s Ministry team again this summer. I just graduated from Virginia Tech with a major in communications and plan to apply to nursing school this fall. I have grown up in Williamsburg and have attended the Chapel since middle school. It’s amazing to be back at a place that has impacted my life in many ways, and I am eager to see the ways the Lord will continue to use me to impact others. I am thankful for this opportunity to serve alongside the Children’s Ministry team again this summer!

Check out our newly designed website!

wcchapel.org We are excited to bring you this new website, updated to current design and technology standards! We listened to the congregation, community, and fellow Chapel staff and saw a need to better utilize the web. Below are some of the new features we’re most excited to bring you.

Mobile Ready We noticed that roughly 30% of our web visitors were browsing on smartphone or tablet devices. We understood that technology is going the way of mobile, and chose a design with that in mind! Every part of the website is now readily available on desktop, tablet, or smartphone.

Visitor Friendly Are you new to Williamsburg Community Chapel? Want to let your friends or family know about the Chapel? The newcomer’s page provides useful Chapel information, maps for getting around the church, and a detailed rundown of Sunday mornings.

SUMMER BIBLE STUDY: Judges New Sermon Series begins Sunday, June 15

Since the beginning of January through our study of I and II Corinthians, Matthew, and Galatians we have studied what the Church could and should look like when we remember Jesus’ words in Matthew 16:18, “…upon this Rock, I will build My church.” As we move toward the summer, we will continue studying this theme from the book of Judges, which gives us the picture of a community that attempts to lay its own foundation apart from Jesus: foundations of control, comfort, greed, self-reliance and subjective morality. Our simplified worship services will help focus our Summer Bible Study as we learn what community looks like when we “do that which is right in our own eyes” ( Judges 19:25 KJV). Together we will gain a deeper understanding of why it is exceedingly important to hear Jesus’ call to build “My church.”
