Upcoming Events, News, & More To learn more, visit www.centralpres.com or call 314-727-2777 Do you have children in college or children about to start college? On August 11, the College and Family Ministries are going to team up to discuss how to parent, love, and support students in their college years. It will be a good time to connect with other parents and to learn together how best to guide our students. For more information, contact Pastor Cole Lescher (clescher@centralpres. com or 314-727-2777). Are you a little confused about exactly where your (or your child’s) new Sunday school room will be in the fall? To help everyone become more familiar with all areas of our campus, please join us for a church-wide BINGO game on August 25th. On that morning, be sure to grab your BINGO card from the Fellowship Hall between 9:45-10:30. Then, have fun finding your Sunday school space and 5 campus spots in a row- to win a prize. Not just for kids! Contact Karen Brown ([email protected]) with questions. We are currently looking for volunteers with experience running sound to help with our tech ministry. If you are interested or want to learn more, please stop by the sound booth before or after a service or contact Pam Smith (psmith@ centralpres.com).

If you are a rising 6th-12th grader, we invite you to attend the youth membership class. The membership class will walk you through what we believe as well as inform you on the EPC and what it means to be a member of Central. For more information, please contact Jenn Anderson ([email protected]).

Has God been faithful to you? How have you seen the Lord be faithful to your church? We would LOVE to hear your stories! Throughout this year of celebrating God’s faithfulness to Central for 175 years, we want to glorify and honor him by sharing stories of God at work in the lives of his people. To share yours, please visit www. centralpres.com/mystory. If you are visiting with us, welcome! We're thrilled you are here. Be sure to stop by the Fellowship Hall on the lower level between the morning services for coffee and a snack. We would love to pray with you or for you! Use the tearoff panel to the left and drop your requests into the offering plate. There is a prayer team that meets at 8:30am each Sunday in the Prayer Room off the Davis lobby, and we offer intercessory prayer immediately after both morning services in the Prayer Room.

Women's Bible Studies The summer is coming to an end, but there is so much to be excited about in the coming fall! Fall at Central means Sunday school starting, Equip Central with delicious dinners, and wonderful opportunities to get involved in Bible studies. This fall, there are several women's Bible studies on offer to fit any schedule. Beginning September 10, Women in Ministry will meet on Tuesdays for large group teaching, small group discussion, and a delicious lunch prepared by Julie Kraus. Small group “circles” meet once a month in members’ homes and there are also weeks dedicated to service projects. There is registration required. A suggested donation of $5 is requested for lunch. On Wednesday nights during EquipCentral, a Bible study will be offered on the book of Acts. Acts traces the beginning of the church after Jesus’ ascension and challenges believers in all areas of living life for Christ. Books will be distributed on the first night and the cost is $9. Book scholarships are available if needed. On Thursday mornings beginning September 12, there are three Bible studies: a study on Luke, a study on Ruth, and a study for mothers. In Luke, we will watch Jesus up close

as he begins to reveal to his disciples, the crowds, and us the astonishing upside-down kingdom of God. Our study in Ruth will look at an ordinary woman encountering the God who works through the circumstances of life and we too can discover the God who can turn our 'poverty' to 'plenty' through Jesus Christ. Cost for the Luke and Ruth study books is $12 each, and the cost for the mother's group is still to be determined. Nursery is available during the Thursday morning studies with advance registration. Finally, on Fridays, beginning September 6, we will be studying 1 Peter. In 1 Peter, a man of faith and flaws and eyewitness to the life of Christ challenges us to look beyond our current circumstances to a future inheritance. He shares his concerns on big picture issues for the early church, describes believers’ true identity in Christ, and ultimately helps readers discover what it means to experience the Living Hope they have in Christ. We are very excited for all of these Bible study opportunities! If you would like more information on any of these, please contact Women’s Ministry Director Jamie Afshari ([email protected]).

Meet Me in St. Louis

Monarch Jewelry

On Tuesday, August 20, at 11:45am, Women in Ministry is hosting their annual summer luncheon. The luncheon is a wonderful opportunity to gather together in fellowship as we enjoy a lovely program and delicious lunch.

Monarch Jewelry is a Christian ministry in connection with Crisis Aid International who creates artistic jewelry and accessories as a unique way to engage in the fight against modern-day sex slavery. Their mission is to increase awareness, raise funds and encourage others to fight against sex trafficking.

Our luncheon this year will have a special focus to look back at the history of our city and our church, and we are very excited to welcome Bill Wichman as our guest speaker. With the theme of "Meet Me in St. Louis," there will be a special emphasis on the early 20th century in the city--particularly the 1904 World's Fair! The luncheon is open to all Central women and their guests. We invite all women in the church to come and join us, even if you have never attended Women in Ministry meetings before! We will have a wonderful time together as we learn more about how God has been faithful to us and our city. Reservations are encouraged, as seating is limited. There will be opportunities to make your reservation on Sunday mornings. For more information on Women in Ministry, or if you have questions about making your reservation, contact Jeanne Kuhlman (jbkuhlman@ me.com).

Unfortunately, trafficking happens every day to hundreds of women and children including in our own city of St. Louis. Crisis Aid works to equip those who are beyond the crisis to get involved by providing training programs. Crisis Aid provides relief efforts both locally and internationally. All this month of August and in September, we invite you to bring your old or unwanted jewelry and donating them to Monarch Jewelry. This jewelry will then be repurposed to help support Crisis Aid in its relief effort. To learn more about Monarch and Crisis Aid, visit their websites (crisisaid.org and monarchjewelry.org). For more information on donating jewelry, please contact Pastor Ben Tzeng ([email protected] or 314-727-2777).
