Meet Rev. Jamison Doehring To my new St. Peter’s family, I figured sharing some more about myself would help us in getting to know each other. As a native of Katy, I attended Katy High School. Though my size tends to give it away, I did indeed play basketball. Before you ask, I am 6' 9". After graduating, I decided to pursue a degree in engineering at Texas A&M University. To my pleasant surprise, I was instead called into the ministry. After considering what God had laid on my heart, I realized that service in an ordained capacity was the new

direction for my life. I finished at A&M with a degree in accounting before heading off to Duke Divinity School in North

Carolina. Interesting to note, we may be the only seminary in the world with a Blue Devil as our mascot. At Duke, I met a wonderful young lady named Katherine Hester. It took the full extent of my charm to “woo” her as they say, but eventually we were engaged and married. Katherine is an ordained Presbyterian pastor, and we love all the excitement that being an ecumenical clergy couple brings to our lives. Upon graduating from Duke, I began as the associate pastor at A&M United Methodist Church back in the Aggie motherland of College Station. There I began to cultivate my passion for equipping those called to serve in the ministries of the church. Nothing makes me smile more than to see people excited to take part in the work for which God has called them. After four years there, I am now here, eager to carry on the work of the church while serving as one of your pastors. I look forward to meeting you, hearing your “tall” jokes, and seeing what God has in store for us in the years to come. Warm Salutations,

Jamison

Romans study begins Sept. 13

W

hat was Paul telling the members of the Roman church when he penned his epistle to them, a letter that is considered by many to

be his greatest written work? In his letter, Paul first introduces himself to the Romans, then he tells them about Jesus and that he has been praying for them and intends to come see them to tell them the good news of the Gospel. Beginning Sept. 13 at 9:30 a.m., we will delve into the Book of Romans using the 12-week OneBook Daily-Weekly Bible Study, with a video featuring Dr. Ben Witherington III, New Testament professor at Asbury Theological Seminary. Registration will begin July 10. Study manuals are $15 and will be available one week before the first class if you register before Aug. 26. For more information, contact Karen Palfreyman at kjpalfreyman@ sbcglobal.net.

Save lives by donating blood

I

n case you need some inspiration to encourage you to donate blood at our Aug. 21 blood drive, coordinator Marsha Asplin just reached a total donation level of 150 gallons given through 1,200 donations. Her donations could potentially save up to 3,600 lives. Just one donation can save up to three lives. Please watch for information about our August drive and plan to become a blood donor yourself.

Help With Habitat Home The schedule for work on the Habitat for Humanity home has changed. We are still having a work day on July 23, but instead of doing landscaping we will be doing interior painting. We need volunteers to help from 8 a.m. to 2 or 3 p.m. Lunch will be provided. If you can help, contact Alex Thorne at [email protected] or (281) 395-3066. This is the second Habitat Home that St. Peter’s has sponsored through Compassion Katy.

Operation Backpack Before you read on, do me a favor: stop and pray for the students, teachers, parents, and staff of Cimarron Elementary. We’re trying to be intentional this year about having deeper relationships with a specific school and specific people. So we’re asking for donations of larger backpacks, because kids in late elementary school and early junior high are often left out of school supply drives. And in August, we’ll be asking you to commit to help out as mentors and volunteers with Cimarron Elementary. Look for more information on that soon. We are partnering with the YMCA and its Operation Backpack ministry as part of our larger mission of engaging our local schools more deeply. We’ve set a lofty goal this year: we want to collect 500 17-inch backpacks for students in fourth through eighth grades. You can bring your donated backpacks to the tub in the Lobby. In addition, Children’s Ministries is asking for donations of school supplies to fill pencil bags for the backpacks. Supplies needed are pencil pouches (sturdy), kids’ scissors, markers, glue sticks, erasers, pencils, pens, and pencil sharpeners. The children will stuff the bags on Aug. 7 during Sunday School. These donations can be dropped off at the Children’s Desk or brought to your child’s Sunday School class.

Pastor Kris Bagley greeted this crew who were playing Pokémon Go and discovered St. Peter’s was a PokéStop. We provided snacks and water to anyone who came on campus looking to collect Pokémon characters. Pokémon Go is a game for cell phones that allows players to move through the real world collecting characters.
