Children’s Ministries Volunteers

A

re you a people person? Do you love working with children? If so, the Children’s Ministries staff is looking for people like you to volunteer at the Children’s Ministries desks on Sunday mornings. This would only entail one or two Sundays a month. We need help for our main desk and for the SPLASH desk. You would help families get signed in and direct them to their child’s classroom or SPLASH. We provide training. To volunteer or if you have questions, contact Heather James at hjames@stpkaty. org or Kelly Johnson at [email protected].

Traveling in the steps of John Wesley Dear Friends, While Dr. Sparks has been in the United Kingdom, I get the privilege of writing to you through our newsletter. I’m thrilled to do so because there is another England trip coming soon, and you’re invited! On May 3-11, 2016, a group from St. Peter’s will travel abroad and walk the paths of John Wesley. It’s going to be an incredible event as we encounter places where a revival occurred, the impact of which was felt across the Atlantic and throughout the world. For me, traveling is such a unique way to encounter God’s presence. I always hear God’s voice in a different way when I am in a new location, experiencing a different culKristopher Bagley, Pastor to the element ture, and seeing the previously unseen. Whether you have never been “across the pond” or you’ve been so often you know the proper sequence of high tea, I’m certain that this adventure will give you something to witness through fresh eyes. We’ll start our journey in the north of England and work our way south to London over the following days. Along the way, we’ll visit Epworth (Wesley’s hometown), Oxford (where Wesley was educated), Bristol (home of the oldest Methodist building in the world), and many other locations before arriving for two days in London. There will be more information about this trip available in the Lobby this Sunday. Dr. Sparks also will present a sermon series on his recent trip. I hope you’ll consider traveling with us and encountering the spirit of revival as we examine the story of how the whole Methodist movement began. The only thing greater than exploring the world is doing so with friends. Let’s go! Peace and joy! John Wesley bobblehead from the collection of Kris Bagley

Wednesday Nights continued from page 1 Called to Community – A discussion of the Church’s role today in the lives of those who no longer turn to it as the center of their lives, those who have never walked through its doors, and those who continue to return to it as a source of strength, inspiration, and connection with God. Disciple IV – A 32-week study of Revelation, John, and The Writings for those who have completed Disciple I. Starts Sept. 2 Job Search Assistance – This group helps those who are looking for employment or job change, with information on search tactics, networking, resumes, and interviewing. Journey (Men’s Group) - Join us in fellowship while we study and discuss scripture, share spiritual experiences, and, most important, learn more about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Revival - In preparation for St. Peter’s May 2016 trip to England and as a follow-up to his sermon series, Dr. Pat Sparks will lead this study that journeys through England with Adam Hamilton, retracing John Wesley’s footsteps to show how his teaching defines our faith, shapes our heritage, and challenges us to rediscover our spiritual passion. You Only Die Once – This study looks at both the spiritual and practical side of end-of-life planning and encourages us to celebrate each day as we prepare for life’s final chapter. You can register now for any of these studies at stpkaty.org.

Thursday Morning Women’s Bible Study

T

he family of Jesus played an important role in God’s story. Each person had his or her own story, but that story ultimately pointed others to Jesus. Join us beginning Sept. 17 for a seven-week study by Karen Kingsbury on “The Family of Jesus.” We will look at the lives of Joseph, Mary, James, Zechariah, Elizabeth, and John the Baptist and how they were impacted by being a part of Jesus’ family. We meet at 9:30 a.m. in E225. Register at stpkaty.org. For information, contact Whitney Peper at [email protected].

Monday Morning Bible Study

T

he book of Isaiah is known for its beautiful images and profound insights into the nature of God. Join us in Monday Morning Bible Study as we learn why Isaiah is quoted more often in the New Testament than all of the other prophets combined. This women’s group meets at 9:30 a.m. in E225 for a weekly informal study beginning Sept. 14 and running through the school year. We also enjoy fellowship through mission projects, social outings, and monthly lunches. The group uses the Serendipity Bible, which includes questions for each book of the Bible. We welcome new members at any time. You can register online or in the Lobby. For more information, contact Maryann Fanty at (281) 395-1719.

A

s we get ready to start a new year of ministry activities at St. Peter’s, we are offering an opportunity for our congregation to pray for these ministries. On Aug. 23, right after the 11 a.m. worship services until 2 p.m., we will have Ready ... Set ... Go Pray! We will have lists to guide you to various areas of the campus where you can pray for all of our worship services and the ministries that will take place in the facilities of St. Peter’s. Many of our ministries will provide specific prayer requests for the coming year. This is an event for all, so no nursery will be provided.

I need your help with something. There are countless students in the Katy area who really need another positive adult relationship in their lives. St. Peter’s has partnerships with two different mentoring ministries, and this Sunday I want you to sign up for one of them. I have a lofty goal that we ought to be able to attain. By Sept. 1, I want to have 100 new people signed up to mentor students either through reVision or the Katy ISD KEYS program. Could God be calling you to invest in the life of a young person? reVision works with youth affected by the juvenile justice system. I was a reVision mentor for several months, and I can’t speak highly enough about the program and the work it’s doing. The CEO of reVision, Charles Rotramel, will be on the main campus Sunday morning to answer any questions about this program and to help people sign up to be mentors. The KEYS program works with KISD schools to provide mentors to students who need a little bit of extra help. On Sunday, we’ll have information available on the different schools where you can mentor, as well as some people who have participated in the program as mentors to help answer questions. Please consider what a difference you can make in a student’s life. Paz,

Nathan Habitat for Humanity Project. On Sept. 19, we will celebrate the beginning of the construction of the Compassion Katy Habitat for Humanity house. Fifteen volunteers will raise the walls and then have a lunch and celebration service where we’ll pray over the house and write Bible verses on the studs. We would love for you to join us, so look for more information coming soon.

One A-Chord singing group

O

ne A-Chord is looking for men and women who can sing, dance, or play an instrument. We share music with people throughout the community, including in nursing and retirement facilities. We rehearse Mondays in August and September in Asbury Hall at 9:30 a.m. Mondays also are our performing days in the community. Please join us in sharing our musical gifts. Contact Gail Shipley at (281) 782-1598 or [email protected] for more information.

Daily Bible Reading High School Home Groups

S

tudents in 9-12 grades are encouraged to register for High School Home Groups at stpstudentministries.org starting Aug. 16. These groups of 8-12 students will meet Sundays beginning Sept. 13 from 5-7 p.m. Students will eat dinner, visit, and study scripture together with adult leaders. Home groups give students a chance to interact with an adult leader who invests time with them and a home setting where they can discuss their spiritual journey. For information, contact Heather at [email protected].

Wednesday Night Dinners helpers needed

D

o you like to cook or shop? What about clean? Do you have skills for organizing people and keeping up with a schedule? Are you looking for a way to be more involved here at the church? If the answer to any of those questions is yes, we could use your help! Wednesday Night Dinners are starting in mid-September, and we need some more cooks, coordinators, cleaners, and shoppers. If you would like more information on what helping with this awesome ministry looks like, contact Nathan at [email protected] or (281) 492-8031 to find out more.

Each year the Youth Choir travels to a destination where they can entertain and have a great time growing in their faith and fellowshipping with the other students. This year the choir traveled to Florida where they enjoyed the beach and spent time performing for residents at one of the local retirement facilities. The choir sang anthems, duets, and trios that the listeners enjoyed very much. Afterward the students always spend time visiting and sharing their stories with their audience. For more information on the Youth Choir, contact David Galasso at [email protected].
