Volume 1, Issue 8

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MESSAGE The Board of Directors conducted a Town Hall meeting on June 25 to discuss the issues that most concerned the community. In response to this meeting, the HOA has begun taking steps to address many of these issues and concerns. Discussions have been held with Williamson County to help address traffic issues in the neighborhood. Additionally, an updated traffic study has been requested from the Williamson County Engineer to potentially place stop signs or other traffic control options throughout the neighborhood now that it is built to capacity. Other concerns raised at the meeting, through social media at NextDoor.com and through direct contact are also either currently being addressed or are in plans to address in the future. The BOD has been collecting feedback from the community relating to some issues and is taking this data into consideration when making decisions going forward. Thank you for your participation in the surveys we’ve offered so far and we ask for your continued input as we move forward.

The coming Annual Meeting for the HOA will likely include votes relating to the structure of the HOA in addition to amending or altering existing covenants that may affect us all. While we understand not everyone will be able to attend the meeting, we ask you to look over the issues on the ballots you will receive and submit a vote prior to the meeting via one of the methods provided at the time. Not only will your vote serve as your voice in these matters, your vote is needed to ensure we legally have enough votes cast to make the elections official or to approve any changes. Be on the lookout in the coming weeks for information regarding the August BOD meeting and the subsequent HOA Annual Meeting likely to be held in September or October. As always, contact any of us directly with any questions and concerns. For a full recap of the Town Hall Meeting Minutes, please find them on the FC3 website homepage at:

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS The star of this pasta salad is the balsamic dressing, made using the following:

By Jen Bush

Mediterranean Pasta Salad

1 cup balsamic vinegar 1 tsp agave ½ cup of olive oil 1 large garlic clove smashed and minced Juice from ½ lemon ½ tsp dried oregano ½ tsp fennel seed ½ tsp dried parsley Salt and pepper to taste Add the balsamic vinegar and agave to a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce to a very low simmer and cook for about 1015 minutes until the liquid reduces by about half and is slightly syrupy. Remove the balsamic from the heat and add olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and spices. Whisk to combine and set aside. Salad Ingredients: 16 oz Fusilli pasta noodles (any short noodle with ridges or spirals to hold the dressing will do) 13-15 oz of chickpeas ½ cup of olives sliced in half (kalamata, spanish or both) 1 six oz jar of marinated artichoke hearts A handful of fresh torn basil A handful of salad greens (I like to use a 50/50 mix of spinach and spring mix) ¼ of a red onion, chopped

It’s August and we’re now in the thick of our hot Texas summer. As the temperature goes up, I tend to crave lighter dinners that are cold instead of hot. The combination of chilled noodles, chickpeas and leafy greens in this Mediterranean Pasta Salad make it a perfect summer dish that stands up great on its own or as a side dish at your next bbq!

Knowledge, Integrity, & Hard Work.

After your noodles are cooked and drained, combine all of the above salad ingredients and add the dressing. Mix together well, completely coating the noodles with the dressing, and chill in the fridge for a minimum of 2 hours. For the best result, chill overnight.

MONTHLY RESTAURANT REVIEWS BY LARRY BROOME

After taking the leap into BBQ for June, a controversial subject in Texas, we may as well go Mexican this month. Also a matter of taste, background and label (Tex-Mex, traditional Mex, new Mex, areas of Mexico, etc). A traditional American view of Mexican food is flavorful, spicy, in a tortilla, garnished with the traditional rice and beans. For a change of pace and a little new Mex spin on the usual, try Tortuga Flats in the Third Base/ Five Guys/ Target shopping center off I-35. If you are lucky enough to get a patio seat on Friday nights in the summer, you will get the feel and hear the sounds of Latin music, with dancers holding tightly to their (excellent) margaritas. Oh yes, the food... The appetizers are highlighted with a guacamole mixed with seafood, some spicy habanero wings and

many more yet to try. Excellent fish, steak and more traditional fare lead the entrees. My favorite is shrimp fajitas, beautiful fresh large gulf shrimp with hints of many background spices, perfectly cooked accompanying onions and peppers. All excellent and so many shrimp; this is a real deal for two at $26.00. I have never had room for dessert so cannot comment. They offer Mexican brunch on Saturday and Sunday, which is really good and serve barbacoa and other traditional dishes all with a twist. This place gets really crowded on weekend nights and Friday night we are told people arrive for patio seating (and margaritas) at 5pm for the music start at 7pm. Tortuga Flats is gaining a local following from the entire community and rightly so. See you there!

ARound the Rock will be an entertaining look at restaurants close to our community, providing information for you to answer the all-important question “where do we eat tonight?” Of course the important things in life; food, wine and music, are subject to our own individual taste and opinion, and this is but one man’s opinion. The locations will all be within a 10 minute drive from FCIII. I look forward to your input as I decide my next stop.
