Couple turns to tweets to name kid By The Associated Press CALGARY, Alberta — No doubt someone will suggest they call him Ice. Or maybe Stick. Or Zamboni. OlymSPORTS pic hockey NOTEBOOK gold medalist Meaghan Mikkelson and her husband are prepared for all sorts of possibilities as they turn to Twitter to help name their baby boy. Mikkelson, a two-time gold medalist with Canada’s women’s hockey team, and husband Scott Reid are expecting in September. They’re asking people to send baby names to Mikkelson’s Twitter address, @Mikkelson12, with the hashtag namemybaby. The couple will pick their eight favorite suggestions Monday and then ask social media to vote on those names. They’ll choose their son’s name from the two that receive the most votes. Says Mikkelson: “People probably think we’re crazy, but it’s fun. It will be a fun story to tell our child.” McCain dodges foul ball PHOENIX — The ball from the left and John McCain leaned to the right. Not much surprise from the Republican senator from Arizona. An avid Arizona Diamondbacks fan, McCain was taking in a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night when a foul ball flew in his direction. The foul by Dodgers shortstop Jimmy Rollins landed in the seats, took a big bounce and caromed into McCain’s lap. He wasn’t able to react fast enough, throwing his hands up in disgust as the ball rolled back toward the field. A fan tried to give McCain the ball, but he waved it off. Wagner card on display DALLAS — One of the rarest, most valuable specimens of sports memorabilia is at the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Southern Methodist University. The T206 Honus Wagner baseball card went on display today. It’s regarded by collectors as the “Holy Grail” of baseball cards. An example recently sold at auction for $1.3 million. Bolt dealing with injured leg PARIS — Slowed by an injured left leg, Usain Bolt withdrew from this month’s Diamond League meetings in Paris and Lausanne, dealing a blow to his title defense preparations for the world championships in August. The statement said the 28-yearold “has been feeling discomfort in his left leg since his last competition which has restricted his training.” Bolt’s last race was a 200 meters in New York on June 13 that he described as “really bad.” His time of 20.29 was more than a second off his world record of 19.19. Terps’ Edsall inks extension COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Maryland football coach Randy Edsall has received a three-year extension that runs through 2019. The Terrapins flourished in 2014, their first year in the Big Ten. Maryland beat Penn State and Michigan on the road and finished 4-4 in the conference, 7-6 overall. It was the team’s second consecutive winning season under Edsall, who took over in 2011.
