YORK ST JOHN STUDENTS’ UNION JOB DESCRIPTION Job title: Course Representatives Support Staff (x2) Department: Membership Engagement Scope of duties: To maximise the engagement of Course Representatives across the schools at the University. Providing administrative support and advice to the Course Representatives and Chairs of School. Salary Scale: £7.90 per Hour Hours of work: 8 Hours Weekly. 30 Weeks (Term Time Only) Responsible to: Membership Engagement Manager Supervisory Responsibility: N/A DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

1. Key Responsibilities       

Assisting in the promotion of SU based Course Rep activity Ensuring Course Reps are informed of all upcoming meetings within their schools Liaising with the Chairs of School to ensure actions from meetings are taken Attending regular meetings between the Course Reps and Chairs of School and keeping an accurate record of discussion Writing a termly report summarising the activities of reps Staffing the annual elections stand, Fresher’s Fair and other events which occur within Membership Engagement Assist in the delivery of annual events such as the Annual Student Awards

2. Other Duties       

Any other duties as may be reasonably required Ensure that the highest standards of professional performance are maintained Promote equal opportunities in the work of the department Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and statutory codes of practice, as advices Participate in the arrangements for performance review Ensure that professional skills are regularly updated through participation in training and development activities Ensure all Students’ Union policies are implemented within the remit of this post

QUALIFICATIONS (Academic, vocational/professional and other training)

Education to A Level of equivalent

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE (e.g. report writing, office experience, Microsoft office)

Experience of working in a democratic or member-led organisation

Relevant work experience in office administration

Experience of compiling surveys, data analysis and report writing

x

A broad understanding of issues affecting the Higher Education sector

x

An understanding of university academic and committee structures

x

SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES (e.g. communication, interpersonal, decision-making, problem-solving, team player, reliable)

Strong clerical skills, including minute taking, agenda production, filing and associated paperwork management

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including listening skills
