Welcome

WELCOME TO THE 2016 LIGHT BEARERS CONVOCATION! To say we are glad you are here would be an extreme understatement. We are literally excited that you have chosen to join us for this event. Why? Well, because this is not merely a run-of-the-mill event. Light Bearers Convocation is deliberately designed to be a spiritual feast of good things from the heart of God. We believe that you, along with us, will be immensely blessed in your walk with the Lord over the next few days. Things will change for the better in our lives. All our relationships will be elevated due to the insights and motivation all of us will receive. As we delve into God’s word, flashes of conviction and practical perspectives on how to live better in love for God and others will burst upon our hearts. 2016 PUBLISHING UPDATE God has done some amazing things for our

NIGERIA After more than a year of waiting for customs, we were finally able to ship a container to Nigeria in April!

BENIN In March we sent a container to Benin, a largely Catholic and Muslim French speaking country of 10 million people on Africa’s West Coast. It was filled with 2 million Bible study guides including Daniel and Revelation study guides.

INDIA It is especially urgent that you pray for this project as it has been extremely difficult for Light Bearers to get gospel literature into India. We have only been able to get one container into India and that was several years ago.

We sent two containers to Tanzania and they are requesting six more. Dozens of churches have been involved in evangelism on various levels and hundreds have been baptized. The literature is being used in house-to-house visitation, Bible classes, and public campaigns, as well as schools, prisons, and hospitals.

Speakers

JAMES RAFFERTY James is Co-director of Light Bearers, pastor of the Cascade Adventist Church in Bend, Oregon and president of the Northwest chapter of ASI. With a special interest in the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation, James has spent the last 30 years preaching the gospel around the world in revival seminars and evangelistic meetings. He has most recently authored, Messiah, a powerful sharing book that brings the love of Christ to light through the 70-week prophecy of Daniel 9. He and his wife Risë have two children, Jeiel and Kierra.

TY GIBSON Ty is Co-director of Light Bearers and pastor of Storyline Adventist Church in Eugene, Oregon. A passionate communicator with a message that opens minds and moves hearts, Ty teaches on a variety of topics, emphasizing God’s unfailing love as the central theme of the Bible. He has authored eight best-selling books, including, A God Named Desire, which paints a compelling picture of God’s character. Ty and his wife Sue have three adult children and two grandsons.

JEFFREY ROSARIO Jeffrey is a Light Bearers evangelist and revivalist. His biblically-sound preaching has made him a featured speaker all over the world. Jeffrey has been in full-time ministry since he was 17 years old and is currently pursuing formal studies in History as relates to worldviews. He and his wife Marianna enjoy traveling to explore the various cultures of the world.

DAVID ASSCHERICK David is a Light Bearers speaker, pastor of the Kingscliff Adventist Church in Australia and co-founder of ARISE. With a gifted clarity that wins both heart and mind, he has spent the last 15 years traveling the globe preaching and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. His first book, God In Pain, offers penetrating insights to the nature and existence of evil and suffering in the light of the Cross. He and his wife Violeta are the happy parents of two boys, Landon and Jabel. They enjoy backpacking, climbing, running, fly fishing and reading.

FRED BISCHOFF Fred Bischoff is director of Adventist Pioneer Library (APL), a service of Light Bearers. He has been studying the relation of Adventist history to Bible prophecy since the late 1980s. He finds his greatest joy in exploring and explaining “the simplicity that is in Christ” in relation to history and prophecy, which culminate in the Adventist mission. One of his favorite topics is the faith of Jesus.

RISË RAFFERTY, RDN Risë has worked for Light Bearers for over 20 years as a writer and public speaker. Her passion to help others realize that God has an amazing plan for them physically and spiritually is seen in her monthly ALIVE articles on various health topics. Risë enjoys sharing messages of physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual health to various audiences. She is married to James Rafferty and a proud mother of two amazing kids.

COVENANT KINGDOM

Imagine what it must have been like to be the prophet Daniel in 7 BC, in a foreign land, with God’s people captive by an antagonistic kingdom, the mightiest empire of his day. With Jerusalem destroyed by the Babylonians, where could Daniel look for any glimmer of hope that the God of Israel had not abandoned His people? Daniel testifies that in spite of the bleak circumstances all around him, he went to “the books” (Daniel 9:2), specifically the prophetic writings of Jeremiah. In other words, Daniel anchored his faith in the prophetic promises of God. Daniel received a series of epic visions that foretold millennia of world history in advance. Earthly kingdoms rise and fall, ruling the world with coercion, brutality and selfishness. Yet through all the apparent hopelessness, Daniel celebrates: “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. . . . He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him” (Daniel 2:20-22, NIV). Daniel had confidence that the kingdom of God will eventually triumph over the kingdoms of this world, because he believed that God was a “great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and mercy” (Daniel 9:4). And with that we have the key feature of Bible prophecy.
