St John Street/Cowcross Street - Road Closures and Diversions Water mains relining works – 6 January to 30 June 2014 As part of the construction of the Crossrail Farringdon station, it has been necessary to reline the water mains and sewer situated under St John Street. After our investigative trial holes, we will be able to line the water mains located within each side of St John Street. We will dig two pits, one by Barclays Bank, from which we will insert the smaller ‘lining’ pipe into the water main and the other near to St John Street, in which we will receive the lining pipe. Changes to pedestrian and traffic routes Cowcross Street will be closed at the junction of St John Street. Local access will be maintained, with a two-way system in operation. St John Street will be closed to traffic between Charterhouse Street and St John’s Lane. Access to St John Street will be via the Clerkenwell Road. There will be no through pedestrian access by Vinoteca, a temporary crossing by 11-33 St John Street will be in place. Charterhouse Street will remain open. Due to the complexities and challenges of utilities works, the programme and hours of working may be subject to change. We will notify you as soon as possible, should this be the case.
Duration of work St John’s Street utilities started in April 2013 and will continue to June 2014 Next phase of works will commence: 6 January to June 2014
What to expect Noisy periods and concrete cutting at times Monday to Friday: 08.00 to 23.00 Saturdays: 08.00 to 17.00 Road closures Traffic management for St John Street, Charterhouse Street, Cowcross Street and Grand Avenue, including diversion signs Work areas will be fenced off and secured
What we will do Monitor noise and dust and keep within levels as agreed with the Local Authority Have a traffic management company working 24 hours a day to ensure neighboring roads are safe and managed Carry out less noisy works at night time Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times Wherever practical, use simple demolition handheld tools to carry out excavation activities.
