Crossrail Farringdon Western Ticket Hall Update We thank you for your patience whilst we continue with works as part of the construction of Crossrail Farringdon western ticket hall (the site bounded by Cowcross Street, Farringdon Road and Charterhouse Street). We are about to start building the station itself, with the commencement of ‘bottom up’ construction in the square shaft. This is a method whereby the basement areas will be excavated and built deep inside the shaft itself. These areas will be ‘behind the scenes’, as they will be home to electrical plant rooms and will also be the emergency exit routes from the platforms when the station is in operation. Escalator shaft works progress with further excavation, propping and construction over the coming months. All works will be undertaken 24/7, and are subject to the permissions and consents agreed with the Local Authority. There will be no ‘muck away’ between midnight and 5am.

Enlargement and construction of secondary tunnels recommenced in January 2014 to facilitate construction of the cross passages, this work is ongoing and we will update you on progress. These works operate from the circular shaft. A concrete batching plant has recently been installed at the Western Ticket hall to supply the sprayed concrete lined tunnels with concrete for the construction. This will reduce the number of vehicles delivering on and off site.

A tower crane will be installed on site over the forthcoming Easter weekend (19 and 20 April). It will arrive on site in segments, on low loaders and other parts will be delivered in smaller vehicles. It will be lowered to Level - 2, using a mobile crane parked on the delivery corridor platform on Farringdon Road. The purpose of the tower crane is to facilitate construction activities associated with the construction of the western ticket hall. There will be no road closures or blockages on the Farringdon Road. The works to erect the tower crane will be undertaken between 0800 and 1800 on the Saturday and Sunday.
