*Call to Worship (responsive)

Nancy Wesley

A wind breathes among us, calling us to gather in the name of the Holy One. A fire burns within us, calling us to service, calling us to prayer. A Spirit moves around us, calling us to turn in joy toward the sorrows of the world. Burning, breathing, Spirit of Compassion, we bring our lives to You.

*Hymn No. 288

Spirit of the Living God (sing 3 times)

Call to Confession

Nancy Wesley

Prayer of Confession Holy Spirit, We’re not sure we’re ready for Your awesome power to blow through our lives; we’ve grown comfortable with our familiar habits and our bland routines; we’re afraid to give up our waking slumber and face the truth that we do not truly live. When we cling to our ways and the safety of familiar paths, wake us up, shake us up, heat us up, and breathe Your life into us. (Silent Confession) Walk with us, O God. Give us the courage to follow the way that is lit by the fire of Your Spirit. On this day of Pentecost, we pray for the audacity to ride the winds of change. Amen.

Kyrie Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us.

Declaration of Forgiveness

*Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

*The Passing of the Peace The peace of the Lord be with you always. And also with you. (During the Passing of the Peace, children are invited to come forward for the time with our young disciples.)

Holy Spirit, Living Breath of God

Chancel Choir

by Mary McDonald

Holy Spirit, living Breath of God, breathe new life into my willing soul. Bring the presence of the risen Lord to renew my heart and make me whole. Cause Your Word to come alive in me, give me faith for what I cannot see, Give me passion for Your purity. Holy Spirit, breathe new life in me. Holy Spirit, come abide within may Your joy be seen in all I do—Love enough to cover ev'ry sin in each thought and deed and attitude. Kindness to the greatest and the least, gentleness that sows the path of peace. Turn my striving into works of grace. Breath of God, show Christ in all I do. Holy Spirit, from creation's birth, giving life to all that God has made. Show Your power once again on earth, cause Your church to hunger for Your ways. Let the fragrance of our prayers arise. Lead us on the road of sacrifice, that in unity the face of Christ will be clear for all the world to see. Holy Spirit, Living Breath of God

Holy Communion Invitation to the Lord’s Table Prayer of Thanksgiving

Brad Clayton

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. ... Therefore we join our voices with all Your people in every time, every place, and every language, singing praises to Your holy name: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might! Heaven and earth are full of Your glory. Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is He who comes in the name, the name of the Lord. Heaven and earth are full of Your glory. Hosanna in the highest! ... Great is the mystery of faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. ...

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
