ST. PAUL’S † EPISCOPAL CHURCH The Rev. Jack Alvey, Rector May 8, 2017 Dear Senior Campers and Parents, It is hard to believe that this summer will mark 16 years since I was a senior camper! Needless to say, I look forward to being part of a ministry that significantly shaped my walk with Jesus during my formative years. The Camp and Session Staff is already hard at work planning how we, with God’s help, can make an impact on your walk with Christ. The theme for this year’s camp, which runs from July 6 – July 15, is “Yes, Jesus Loves Me! The Bible Tells Me So.” You may be wondering, “That sounds more like a camp theme for the little kids!” Karl Barth, one of last century’s most learned and influential theologians, said these words on his death bed. No matter how old or how young, the truth of Jesus’ love for us is foundational in our life and witness as Christians. And the primary tool that God gives us to grow in the knowledge of Jesus’ love is the Bible. Over the course of about a week and a half, campers will discover and re-discover how the God of scripture is forming, pursuing, and saving his people with a relentless love that is revealed in its fullest through his Son our Lord Jesus Christ. We will explore how the love of Jesus is made known in Creation to Easter to Revelation and beyond. And our hope is that the exploration of God in scripture will help make the love of God more real in your life today as you learn to be followers of Jesus – the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Keeping with a similar ethos as the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd or Godly Play children’s curriculums, we believe that God’s love isn’t something that is simply learned but something that must be experienced. Therefore, the themes of scripture will be experienced through worship, skits, story-telling, videos, music, games, service, and conversations. The Camp and Session Staff look forward to welcoming you to camp on Thursday, July 6. Plan to arrive for camp registration between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. We will not be able to accommodate early arrivals, so please make plans to arrive during the designated times. Camp pick up is Saturday, July 15. Campers should be out of their cabin by 10:30 a.m. Parents are welcome to join us at 9 a.m. at St. Francis Chapel for the closing Eucharist. Registration runs more smoothly if you make all your payments before arriving at camp so please check out the registration portal online to pay a remaining balance or to add money to canteen account. Please remember that drugs, alcohol, weapons, or tobacco will not be tolerated. Also, please leave behind other items that will distract you from fully participating in camp such as video games, cell phones, etc. For more information about what to pack, camp’s policies and procedures, and camp-life, please visit the website at http://campmcdowell.com/infopolicies. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any comments, questions, or concerns. As we anticipate camp together, know that the staff is holding you in prayer and ask that you hold the camp and staff in your prayers as well. Faithfully, Jack+ 210 Lauderdale Street P.O.
