Heatherwood Village Home Owner's Association Newsletter - March 2010

Heatherwood Village Dear Neighbors, Hello! I hope that everyone has had a great start to the New Year.  We are looking forward to a new and wonderful swim season with the Heatherwood Hurricanes.  We would like to invite all Heatherwood Village residents to join our swim team this season.  We have a wonderful coaching staff and a lot of kids that have a great time. The swim team is a great community event that keeps the kids involved in a sport during the summer and gives them a chance to make new friends. Heatherwood is an open swim team, which means that kids from other neighborhoods can join the team if their subdivision does not have one.  The requirements for the team are that your child is ready to have a good time and improve their swimming. The team registration will be held on March 20th and April 17th. The first meet, which is a mock meet or time trials, is held on May 1st.  This is also the cutoff date for the kids who decide that swim team is not for them or for those who are in the 6 and under age group who cannot swim the width of the pool. If this is the case, we do refund for your registration fees, but not for suits and goggles. * FYI ~ The rain date is May 8th.

Block Captains Needed! Heatherwood is asking for volunteers to be “Block Captain” for your street. “Block Captains” will be asked to help obtain current names and telephone numbers for the Heatherwood Directory, welcome new residents, help plan and organize block parties and meet occasionally in the evening at the clubhouse to discuss ongoing projects as needed. Please email your name and evening phone number to lams.mgmt@ yahoo.com. We would like to have at least one volunteer from each street if possible. This is a great way to get involved with the subdivision and to meet other Heatherwood residents.

Heatherwood Village News from MUD #18 All pipeline construction necessary for the conversion to surface water has been completed by the North Harris County Regional Water Authority (Regional Authority) and we are awaiting a date to connect to surface water sources. At the same time Harris County MUD 18 has completed its work to convert our plants from chlorine disinfection systems to chloramine systems. This system change allows us to accept piped water treated with this technique from the Regional Authority as mandated. As of this writing, the plan is still to connect in the first or second quarter of 2010. Prior to the actual change over, we will notify all residents by mail at least 14 – 21 days in advance of the implementation. On another note, effective January 2010, the Regional Authority implemented an increase in the fee that they charge all water districts in North Harris County. This fee is identified as a line item on your water bill and the increase will be reflected in the January billing period. The new fee increases from $1.50 per 1,000 gallons to $2.20 per 1,000 gallons. Therefore, based on an average usage of 10,000 gallons in a month, that represents a $7.00 increase. As your usage increases in the summer, the increase will have a larger impact to your bill. You can get an idea of the impact to your bill by reviewing the history of your water usage for the last 12 months. This information is provided on each water bill. The summer months are always the highest usage months as we all experienced last year and will impact us again this summer. The main use during this time is for lawns and landscape watering. Now is the time to review your usage and see if there are ways to conserve, which can reduce the amount of water your family uses and ultimately keep your costs in check. Then hope for rain to help us out. Information on the Regional Water authority can be found at nhcrwa.com, and information on MUD 18 can be found on hcmud18.com. Roy Beversdorf HCMUD #18
