DELIVERING A FAIR AND HIGH QUALITY NDIS The Andrews Labor Government is committed to delivering a fair, high quality National Disability Insurance Scheme. Today at the Victorian ALP State Conference, the Premier affirmed the Labor Government’s commitment to delivering an NDIS that delivers high quality services, underpinned by fair treatment of Victoria’s disability workforce. The Government will establish an independent, legislated Victorian registration and accreditation scheme for the state’s disability workforce. The scheme, developed in partnership with our industrial partners, will protect vulnerable people from harm and support the development and growth of a quality disability workforce, by ensuring workers who care for people with a disability have the right skills, experience and qualifications. A highly skilled and professional workforce is the foundation of a high quality NDIS. The Government is committed to protecting the ongoing employment standards of public sector disability workers and to working nationally to pursue a sustainable, operational and financial model of the NDIS that is also fairer for all Victorian disability workers. The Government will remain a service provider in some form under the NDIS, and will continue to work to genuinely explore options for the continued delivery of public sector disability services. Quotes attributable to the Premier “When it comes to the NDIS, the Government is committed to the high road on quality of services and conditions of employment.” “The real threat to the NDIS is Malcolm Turnbull and his Government’s attempts to undermine the scheme.” “We will take the fight for a fair and sustainable NDIS to COAG and beyond.” “We are committed to protecting the ongoing employment standards of public sector disability workers and to ensure that not a single one will be worse off as a result of the roll out of the NDIS.” Quotes attributable to Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing Martin Foley “It’s about giving certainty to people with a disability that they will have high quality services – and the disability specialist workforce will have their professionalism recognised.” “I acknowledge the work of our industrial partners who have been a key voice and a strong advocate for a quality NDIS with a quality workforce” Media Contact: Hayley McNaughton 0424 753 775 | [email protected]
