Director of Learning, Teaching and Academic Quality Navitas is a diversified global education provider that offers an extensive range of educational services for students and professionals including university programs and language training. The Director of Learning Teaching and Academic Quality (DoLTAQ) is responsible for the strategic management and direction of the Navitas learning and teaching infrastructure, culture and approach and its custodian of academic quality and standards. This is a key national role in promoting the sustainable growth of the College network in the UK. The role is charged with ensuring the effective management of the pedagogic operations of the College network inclusive of embedding a comprehensive quality assurance and enhancement regime across the academic environment; facilitation of a successful academic interface with each of the Partner Universities; the effective management and mentoring of the staff involved in learning, teaching and academic quality; and participation in the strategic planning and implementation process related to the growth agenda. The successful candidate will:      

Role Overview The Director of Learning Teaching and Academic Quality (DoLTAQ) is responsible for the strategic management and direction of the Navitas learning and teaching infrastructure, culture and approach and its custodian of academic quality and standards. The role is charged with ensuring the effective management of the pedagogic operations of the College network inclusive of embedding a comprehensive quality assurance and enhancement regime across the academic environment; facilitation of a successful academic interface with each of the Partner Universities; the effective management and mentoring of the staff involved in learning, teaching and academic quality; and participation in the strategic planning and implementation process related to the growth agenda. This role also contributes significantly to the effectiveness of the operational leadership team of the UPD in the UK via oversight and co-ordination of educational strategy and operation, management of academic review inclusive of the QAA HER process and the sharing of good practice across the network. The Director has to be able to both lead and work effectively as part of a team. They are expected to be a firm but fair leader who know how to get the best out of all staff at all levels whilst securing total commitment to the learning, teaching and quality agenda of Navitas UK. The Director’s role has both a strategic and operational dimension. The Director will lead the strategic development of learning and teaching practice and policy in the context of contemporary pedagogic developments particularly around Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL). The role is also a hands-on position designed to facilitate the Colleges’ ability to:     

Provide the highest levels of student experience In the classroom and wider academic, teaching and learning contexts; Remain compliant with all internal Navitas UK Quality and Standards Office (QaSO) requirements; Remain compliant with all relevant external regulations (UKVI and QAA); Secure approvals for new programmes and articulation routes; Manage the annual Tracer Study data with a view to harnessing the data for curricula enhancement.

Key Result Areas: The Director of Learning, Teaching and Academic Quality is a key position in the management of Navitas UK’s learning and teaching environment and quality regime. The following information provides details of the role and the personal profile required to undertake this challenging position. It is critical that the Director works cooperatively with the College Directors/Principals to achieve objectives inclusive of:   

  

Management of the overall Navitas student experience; Management of the learning, teaching and quality environment for the UPD in the UK; Facilitation of the interface between University partner Quality Offices/Registry and all Navitas UK business operations for the effective approval of curriculum, programme development and quality and enhancement agendas; Management of the UPD UK Quality and Standards Office; Participation in the new business development agenda for UPD UK Collaboration globally and representation of UP EU on Global Group projects when required.

Key Focus Areas: 

     



Business and commercial development (programme expansion) and innovation - identifying at least one new articulation and one new taught College programme at each College in any given academic year. Governance and co-ordination/visibility at College level (via the Academic Advisory Committee - AAC) Central co-ordination (Learning and Teaching Committee and Forums) and strategy/policy development. Tracer Study oversight, analysis and performance. Strategic alignment with partners including attendance of at least one AAC at each College per Financial Year. Participation in drafting the strategic partnership component of each College’s Learning and Teaching strategy. Working with each College to progress the overarching Navitas UK Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) plan; facilitate the development of College TEL plans within the College Learning and Teaching strategy; and provide a conduit between the Learning and Teaching group in Australia and UK Colleges in relation to TEL and pedagogic advances. Academic Review (QAA, Periodic Review) and general quality assurance frameworks.

The Quality and Standards Office The aim of the NVT UK QaSO is to provide central coordination, guidance and process on compliance and quality assurance, and provide a service for internal and external stakeholders and relevant authorities. Its remit is to maintain and improve quality and standards across all facets related to the student experience inclusive of:   

Regulatory, legislative and institutional led compliance Internal/External audit mechanisms and processes Reporting processes and standards

    

Document and process development in relation to academic policy, regulation and procedure Curriculum development, benchmarking and mapping Teaching and learning delivery and resourcing Academic and support strategies and planning Student records systems and administration

To ensure the best practice operational provision to internal and external stakeholders as well as continuous enhancement of the student experience, in order to:       

Maintain and grow public/private partnerships Support new business development Provide a student experience that exceeds student expectations Support the retention process Enable cost effective structures and delivery of a range of programmes Support teaching Increase the operational efficiency and efficacy of colleges

Qualifications and Selection Criteria The Director needs to:      

Performance Appraisal The Director will be required to participate in an annual appraisal and review process. The process will involve working with the General Manager University Programmes Europe, to develop a Performance Appraisal and Action Plan (PAAP) inclusive of performance metrics that are specific to the individual as well as generic Navitas Limited metrics.
