Part 3: DISCIPLESHIP Practice Being Jesus

IRRESISTIBLE

Christians

are devoted to fellowship,
 serve in ministry,
 are committed to discipleship,
 engage in evangelism and
 offer themselves in worship.

DISCIPLESHIP

Clarified

Discipleship is not a class, a certificate of achievement or a strategy to the deeper spiritual life. There is nothing clinical or formulaic to authentic discipleship.

DISCIPLESHIP

Defined

Discipleship is an all-consuming,
life-altering relationship that comes from spending time with Jesus as his devotee. “When the Jewish council saw Peter and John’s courage and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.” ACTS 4:13

DISCIPLESHIP

Defined

Discipleship is “being with Jesus” until I look increasingly like him—assuming his mindset, absorbing his characteristics and expressing his behavior.

DISCIPLESHIP

Defined

Discipleship implies that our Christlikeness is so compelling that we are influencing others to look like Jesus, too. Discipleship is not an end-game. It’s a baton pass .

“Make your testimony visible so the generation yet unborn, a people yet to be created, will praise the Lord.” PSALM 102:18

“Take the teachings that you heard me proclaim in the presence of many witnesses, and entrust them to reliable people, who will be able to teach others also.” II TIMOTHY 2:2

DISCIPLESHIP

Defined

Discipleship is a relationship whereby Jesus’ life gets transmitted to us, and through our lives, we transmit to others the infectious DNA of Jesus

“For there is no other name under heaven given by which we can be saved.” ACTS 4:12

“They took note that these men had been with Jesus.” ACTS 4:13

What I HAVE

trumps what I don’t have: I have every possibility that Peter and John had to“be with Jesus” . The greatest goal I can have is that the only thing people can do with me is to take note that I have been with Jesus.

DISCIPLESHIP

& Me

1 My discipleship is not all up to me. God is committed to the task of transforming me into the likeness of Jesus.

“For from the very beginning God decided that those who came to Him should become like His Son.” ROMANS 8:29

God’s inexorable plan is to make me
like Jesus “God wants us to grow up like Christ in everything.” EPHESIANS 4:15

DISCIPLESHIP

& Me

2 My discipleship is not just a mindset; it’s an intentional posture.

“Anyone who claims to be intimate with God ought to live the same kind of life Jesus lived.” I JOHN 2:6, MSG

My discipleship is the daily practice of being Jesus.

When I think of Jesus, what are the first three attributes,
attitudes and or actions that come to mind?

#1 #2 #3 MY ASSIGNMENT This week I will consciously practice being Jesus by consistently doing these three things.
