There are 46,307 acres of state land and 2,050 acres of county forest, all open to the public for hunting, hiking, biking and more.

We have 25 official fishing locations where you can catch stocked and indigenous trout, small mouth bass, walleye, northern pike and panfish. For watersports and related recreation, Cuba Lake is 445 acres, with a maximum depth of 46 feet, and Rushford Lake is 558 acres with a maximum depth of 115 feet. In addition to many miles of cross-country ski trails throughout the county, and Swain Ski and Snowboard’s downhill skiing, snowboarding and tubing, there are 380 miles of snowmobile trails that are maintained by the Allegany County Federation of Snowmobilers. We have 20 museums; 17 that have local or regional historical themes/displays, and research files. Antiques can be found in over a dozen shops located throughout Andover, Angelica, Alfred, Belmont, Cuba, Friendship and Wellsville. Tee off at any of the six golf courses for those who want to hit the links while visiting. We have fourteen campgrounds offering a combined total of approximately 645 RV sites, 46 cabins, and 229 tent sites. Alpaca farming is a growing attraction, and there are now nine farms for you and your family to enjoy. Local produce and baked goods can be found at farmer’s markets off Route 19 in Alfred, Angelica Belmont, Canaseraga and Wellsville, from May to October. Accommodations include seven bed and breakfasts, nine motels, and six businesses that fall under the category of specialty lodging. With over 30 restaurants throughout the County, all levels of dining are readily available from fast-food to fine-quality cuisine.

Allegany County is nestled in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains and offers a wide variety of activities appealing to all visitors. We have a relaxed, unhurried way of life with a full menu of seasonal activities including hunting and fishing, fairs, holiday celebrations, outdoor sports,
and special interest events such as a Trout Derby, an Artisans’ Tour, a Hot Air Balloon Rally, County Fair, Heritage Days, and a Garlic Festival to name a few. Accommodations for visitors include a wide range of choices from motels to bed and breakfasts, and from campgrounds to rental cabins. Large and small game hunting, fishing, hiking, back-packing, skiing, birding, photography, canoeing and swimming can all be enjoyed in our wonderful outdoors. For others, we have a full range of cultural activities, shopping, dining and sightseeing. Enjoy the special ambience of small towns and the welcoming spirit of friendly people.
