Discovering Hope in the Psalms Psalm 2: The Hope of Messiah’s Reign
The Rebellion of Man (v. 1-3) It is characterized by... Rage (2:1a)- tumultuous in its conspiring Plotting (2:1b)- to “meditate” on something means to “utter something under one’s breath” and it is a repeated action. “Set themselves” (2:2a)- independent assertion, literally means “get ready for war.” “Take counsel together” (2:2a)- their standard for decision making is each other. *Fighting against God’s rule over your life. (2:3) The Reaction of God the Father (v. 4-6) Despite man’s rebellion, God rules over all. (2:4-5) Despite man’s rebellion, God’s plans will stand firm forever. (2:6) The Rule of God the Son (v. 7-9) Jesus Christ’s rule was confirmed by His resurrection from the dead. (Acts 13:32-33) Jesus Christ’s rule will be complete over the nations. (Isaiah 49:6b)
The Responsibility of Man (v. 10-12) 1. Be wise- choose to listen and obey God’s words. 2. Be warned- also means “be instructed” from the Word of God. 3. Stop serving self and start serving the Lord. 4. Show submissive love and devotion to our Savior King. 5. Know the eternal blessing of taking refuge in Him. Questions to Consider: In what ways am I like the nations that rage against the Lord? Am I bowing my knee, surrendering my heart, to the Savior King?
