DISCUSSION GUIDE UNEXPECTED | NOV. 19/20 GOD’S HEART FOR THE UNDERDOG FOR STARTERS 1. Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged you or raised questions? 2. Make a list of the people today who we could call underdogs and then list out the different attitudes people have toward them.

DIGGING IN Lots of verses to look up this week - you can take a sample if you like. 1. The law of God reveals the heart of God - look up a couple of the following verses and note God’s care for the widows, orphans, foreigners and poor: a. Lev. 19:9-10 c. Exod. 23:11 e. Deut. 26:12 b. Deut. 24:19 d. Lev. 12:8 f. Deut. 15:7-8 2. The commandments teach how God’s children are to care for the vulnerable. a. Negative: what should not be done. Look up Lev. 19:15; Exod. 22:21-22, 23:3 b. Positive commands: what we should be doing. Look up Deut. 10:18-19; Psalm 82:3-4; Prov. 19:7, 29:7, 31:20; Micah 6:8 3. Jesus came to serve the vulnerable (cf Luke 4:18-19, 7:22) and taught His disciples to do the same. Look up Luke 11:41 and 14:12-13. 4. How did the church model it? a. Acts 6:1; 24:17; Gal. 2:10

BRINGING IT HOME 1. How is God using His Word to teach, rebuke, correct and train you to love Him and your neighbor? 2. How can we become more sensitive to the daily challenges many face around us? 3. What positive verb (from 2b above) will you incorporate in your life and how? 4. What kind of margin can you add to your life to help those around you in need? Pray through Micah 6:8 as a group, asking God to forgive our hearts and give us His heart!
