MAY 13/14 BOB MERRIT T

If there’s no God, there is no absolute truth, no authority, no standard for right or wrong—what’s true for you isn’t necessarily true for me. But if God is who he says he is—the Creator of all that exists, the Author of life, the One who created every living thing—then he is the source of all truth.

Discussion Questions 1. Why does truth matter? How can not knowing the truth cost you a marriage, family, career, or future? 2. In what ways is it a contradiction for someone to say they believe in God but not in absolute truth? 3. Read John 8:31-36. In what areas of your life do you feel trapped? Maybe you feel trapped by anger, jealously, or addiction. How does knowing that the truth sets you free change your outlook on those areas? 4. When you know Jesus and are filled by his Spirit, you’re going to start to know the truth about relationships, work, money, and purpose—and you’ll make decisions that help you instead of hurt you. In which of the above areas do you need to allow God’s Spirit to lead and guide you? How can you invite the Spirit into those areas of your life?

Challenge Spend time this week reflecting on the truth of Jesus. Identify the lies you believe about yourself that are keeping you from being free. Make a plan for how you can combat those lies with truth this week.

Commit to Memory You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32
