March 3/4 - Overcoming Sin - Bob Merritt

Sin is something we all deal with. And it shows up in uncomfortable ways—often through shame, fear, and blame. It’s the cause of every hurt, lie, and injustice in this world. But the good news is that God can take whatever is wrong in your life and make it right; He sees all of our sins and forgives us anyway.

Discussion Questions 1. Read Romans 7:15-20. How do you relate to what Paul is saying in these verses? Share some examples. 2. Who or what do you tend to blame when life doesn’t go as planned? 3. Read Matthew 7:3-5. Why is it easier to see sin in other people’s lives rather than your own? How can you start to identify and take ownership of the sin in your own life? 4. Think about your signature sin—the one sin that, no matter how hard you try, you can’t seem to break free from. How has that sin affected your relationships? What are some ways you can start to move toward finding freedom from it this week?

Challenge Identify an area of life where you need to extend or receive forgiveness. This week, take a step toward healing—come out of hiding, confess your sin to the other person, and move in the direction of restoration, as much as it depends on you.

Commit to Memory How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. Psalm 19:12
